Play some goddamn defense sheesh

Maybe they should just drive to the basket after dribbling the piss out of the basketball for 20 seconds like they did in the 90s.

I seriously cant stand the "play some defense" when the guys are so skilled, and the floor is so spaced, like, you can't. Even role players have dribble packages that eclipse anything in the past. Jordna Clarkson is a prime example. Dude's easily more skilled than guys like Steve Francis or Marbury.

I see people clowning on D'AngeGOAT this year, when he's really stepped it up. He'll push a guy to the corner and let them move onto a wing or bing, and everyone is like "See! He cant play defense!" When in reality he moved the offensive player to a better match up and went to play the lane. That's just one example of many. Shit. James Harden has been playing good defense this year too. But since people can't meme on him he is just irrelevant on a team thats like 12-3 in their last 15.

Defense is played, guys are just that good in the year of our Lord, 2024.

Half right in the sense that players are more athletically gifted and talented offensively now, But you cannot say that and make an excuse for them not adapting and playing good defense too. Being able to be more effective offensively isn’t mutually exclusive with being more efficient defensively. Hell, JKidd said they could play better defensively but since it isn’t their strength; they will focus on putting up a shit ton of points to win and hope their defense doesn’t do the same on a given night. It’s how the league is which is why i said play some goddamn defense. Capability is there but it’s not the popular thing to do anymore with the state of the league, rules, refs, etc.

There are still teams like the Twolves who are able to play consistent defense. In fact they haven’t given up 130 more than once in 30+ games this season and are the best/2nd best team in the entire league atm. Every team has talent everywhere so there is no excuse for giving up 130-140 all the time. Again It’s a lack of effort and a focus on the offense.

It is though, because you can't put in the same effort on both ends of the court with how much movement is happening. Jason Kidd can't get Luka and Kyrie to be better defensively because their usage is so high on offense they'll shoot themselves out before the 4th quarter. That's why you see a bunch of teams mixing in defensive role players through line ups. Switching is exhausting, and over a 82 game season its going to burn you out. Jason Kidd knows its not the same league as it was in 2001.

The Wolves also have a roster unlike the rest of the league, and have Naz Reid and Jaden McDaniels as elite wing defenders who can fit into any line up, with ANT being the best 2 way player in the game. Gobert is awesome as a rim protector, and KAT has finally stepped up defensively. When you have a roster and top 5 player in the league who isn't relied upon to score 40+ a night like Luka, you definitely will see a better defensive effort/results.

Kind of an aside, but look at the Kings or the Pacers, how the absolute fuck are you going to defend those actions? You just can't. Too fast, too strong, and the players are too smart. They see what you're doing on film and just attack it right away, even before you're set. Offense always has the advantage in the NBA.

That’s pretty much the expanded version of what I said. The league is offensively focused so of course it will rule today’s nba. Again the capability is there to focus better defensively but why bother when you can score 130 on another team that doesn’t play much defense either.

Now the blame is also on the GMs who construct teams like you’ve said about some of the bad defensive rosters. It’s a league wide issue and the new nba, but I’ll take a team like the TWolves/Celtics any day due to their balance offensively AND defensively. There’s a reason they are the two best teams right now.

You have Good points overall though and it’s an interesting discussion

The Kings and pacers wouldn’t even put up 70 with bill canbeer or Charles Oakley grabbing their ass

The Jazz being so close to .500 at 16-19 is fuckin astounding
Was just talking about defense and how the best two teams are at the top defensively. Jazz just put up 154 and currently at 15 in the second quarter lol. Props to the Celts for locking in on both sides of the ball.

Holy shit what a bloodbath. Celts gonna score 90 in this half lmao

Jazz actually scoring now at least lol. It was much worse earlier
What's bullshit is their coach was a Celtics bench coach before Ainge stole him away.

Then Ime gets in trouble and they have to promote Mazula

There's a timeline where he gets promoted instead and the Celtics are substantially better the last year and a half

Would pay good money to see this Celtics bench squad vs the Pistons in the heat of their losing streak. Would be a debacle.

Start of season: I can't believe he's in year 21.
Middle of season: Yeah but year 21.

<seedat>

AD is the best player on that disgrace of an organization.

Just trade LeCan to the Warriors so he can fulfill his dream of playing with Curry and then let him retire like a fart in the wind. Lmao.

Yeah it’s funny when they were winning the in season tourney it was used as an impressive feat, but all of a sudden it’s a crutch.
