Something that went under the radar last night because the suns lost. Imagine if this team had depth, they would actually have a decent chance at contending.

Are they though? I know that as finished careers the OG OKC line up netted 3 MVP awards but at the same time right now if we go SGA to KD, and then Westbrook year 2 to Jalen Williams year 2, and Chet year 1 to Harden year 1:

KD season 6: 28/8/4.5 on 51/41/90 (65% TS)
SGA season 6: 31/5.5/6.5 on 55/38/88 (65% TS)

Russ year 2: 16/8/5 on 42/22/78 (49% TS)
Jalen Williams season 2: 19/4/4.5 on 54.5/44/80 (62.6% TS) (highest fg% in jump shots in the league)

Harden year 1: 10/2/3 on 40/38/80 (55% TS)
Chet year 1: 17/8/3 on 54/40/78 (64.5% TS)

42-18 isn't a coincidence, they have a great young trio that is being slept on by many.

Still no comparison. You should really be comparing Russ with Chet and Williams with Harden anyways. But also take into account the inflated scoring of today’s NBA vs. back then.

I also don’t base everything only off of numbers. Sure they have had a good season but they are still unproven. Thunder with the big three won 50+ the first two seasons as a big 3 and went to the Finals in the 3rd season together. If the Thunder do really well these next three seasons with these 3 playing at an all star caliber level, then my opinion can change.

Honestly, if Jokic rolls an ankle last year in the play offs, would it be a stretch to think they would have won it all? would have had to have beaten the Heat and the Lakers. Nurkic for Ayton is a good substitution for them. Still can't give them better odds than Boston/Milwaukee/Denver/Clippers among others, but they're not going to be a cakewalk for anyone IMO this year; but Booker and KD basically have to put in the huge minutes again and be on fire, which will wear them down yet again.

Biggest thing for the team going into the season was depth and health. They essentially did nothing big at the deadline to remedy their depth and one of the big 3 is constantly injured at any moment so I really don’t see them contending. Sure they can make it out of the first round, but I would take majority of the top 4 in the west over them.

Yeah, totally. Beal is probably the best player in the league I don't remember ever seeing play even though I know I must have seen him many times lol. Between injuries and being on the shitty wizards for years, he has made exactly no imprint on my mind. And yeah, vegas having Phoenix number 5 favorite is weird to me, but TBF it seems like there's a big gap between 4 (Bucks) and 5.

Mavs shouldn't be losing these games. There's really no excuse.

Some in the thread will disagree but I think this roster is decent. They just aren't playing to their potential.

Doncic, Kyrie, Lively, PJ Washington, Josh Green, Jones Jr, THJ, Gafford and Exum is too good a line up to be losing to bad EC teams like the Embidless Sixers and the Raptors.

Few factors come into it in my opinion..

1.) Kidd hasn't been able to get this team as a unit defensively.
2.) Kyrie and Doncic aren't good on ball defenders, despite doncic getting some nice steals and rating well in post defense. 1 + 2 = they are a revolving door on defense.
3.) Offense can become stagnant due to Luka being a bit too ball dominant.
4.) Team has gone through heaps of changes plus injuries, they still haven't figured out their exact identity yet, offensively and defensively. That's why they haven't been consistent.

There's a chance that this team can at least make the second round of the play offs, but they need to focus.

I’d settle with getting out of the play-in game. I have zero confidence they can beat the Warriors, Lakers, Suns or Kings if those are the play in teams.

The points you listed are correct but overall I don’t agree with the roster being good enough to contend. Washington has been the same player he was with the Hornets (inconsistent alternating good and bad games). Green, Jones, Jr, Hardaway, Hardy are all streaky players that don’t offer much besides scoring. Lively and Gafford are the lone good spots other than Luka and Kyrie. Exum is okay and the only one who can get his own shot sometimes, but can’t stay healthy. And the remaining dont do much or are just bad (Kleber, Powell, or whatever D-league level players remaining). That is not even close to a contender roster.

It really doesn’t matter what the overall roster is since the defense has ALWAYS been the main issue. I knew this would be a massive issue from the first couple of games when JKidd said their best defensive strategy is to outscore opponents with 120+ ppg.

Uncle Jew is just too slick out there to even get fouled.
There are missed calls on him for sure but I don’t think it’s some bias against him. Watching his style of play, majority of the time he is trying to avoid contact driving to the rim using his slick handles and circus type shots. If he put his head down and tried to finish through defenders and attempting to draw contact, he would get much more calls.

Mavs should just blow it up in the off season and trade Lucuck to the lakes. No point in waiting for the inevitable.

If he went anywhere it would probably be Denver and if that happened the league is probably getting packed up.

Certainly, his style is to avoid contact 90% of the time. Occasionally he will throw or draw a bump close to the rim then go up. F all that free throw shit. <45> His game is just centered around getting buckets.
