Yet we still do manual counting and verification of ballots, especially in highly contested races, because it's more accurate.

Even when machine counted, the ballots are checked for errors before the machine counts them.
I know but why are some states way faster that are more populated ? You don’t think to could be done faster ?

If the senate comes down to Warnock and Hershel runoff it will be comical.
Yea Hershel if he was smart, would tell trump to stay away and have DeSantis hanging out there every day with him in public

Because in those states they don't count all the votes before calling it.

The races aren't as close so they only need to count a smaller percent before the result can be reasonably assumed. Some races get called with like 5% of the votes counted or even less.

Also yeah, some places do suck more than others. Every state has a difference process which complicates it even more. Even each individual district is as the mercy of the people in that district who run the counts.

Don't disagree. Don't really like either candidate for the senate tbh. It's really just about a party vote at this point. The libertarian carrying 2+% may swing Hershels way but it will depend on turnout of those and overall in a runnoff.

Herschel is like an RPG character that has all his points in strength, dexterity, and constitution, but left intelligence and speech at bare minimum. I wouldn't count on him making that decision on his own accord. Maybe his handlers will know better, maybe not.

It's great that we are being told not to express doubt that "undermines" our democracy while simultaneously being told to accept days or weeks long result tallying as the new norm. One would think an efficient and transparent process would be a prerequisite to assuaging doubt.

What part of any state's election is transparent? Do you get to see "inside" the voting machines or the mechanism that tallies day-of votes? This AZ process is no less transparent than any other part of the state or national elections.

AZ is predominantly a mail-in state.

Yah, and we are supposed to accept this is a permanent phenomenon now, which started in earnest in 2020 (looks like those tallies are frozen, see you tomorrow folks!), because of uh, population growth, and I don't know, climate change

In 2018, the mid-term election was held on November 6th and Arizona wasn't called until November 12th. This isn't new, you're just newly noticing because AZ has become a swing state. In 2014, one of the House races was still "too close to call" as of December 17th.

I'm seeing claims that the Republicans won the popular vote by some 6 million votes. Not even sure how that would be counted. Anyone know where this is coming from, or is this just Republican wishful thinking?

The last time the GOP had full control of the federal gov't, their only major legislative accomplishment was a big tax cut for corporations and people who inherit millions of dollars (signed into law by a guy who inherited a nine-figure fortune). Their main focus now is cutting SS/Medicare/Medicaid. The idea that they're anti-oligarchy is about as wrong as it's possible to be.

The fact that some of these GOP supporters can't put two and two together absolutely astonishes me. How they've come to believe that the party who historically cuts taxes for those that don't need them, while cutting programs for those that do are somehow in the corner of the average Joe...I really can't put words to my disbelief.

Some states start counting mail-in ballots as they're received, some wait until election day, some wait until after the polls close, and some continue counting them even if received after election day, so long as they are post-marked by a certain date. This has been explained numerous times.

They just tally the votes for each party in all races. I'm not sure if they count those votes in unopposed races and I'm not sure if they include state-level races (like school board, state congress/senate, mayoral, etc.).

florida was done and wrapped up on election night .. why are these other places taking so long to count votes .. you see .. this is why people get suspicious and don't trust these people .. shenanigans .. this is ridiculous .. 2 days later and the votes aren't all counted yet .. it should not be this way

Florida is the last place people should talk about when it comes to voting integrity.
