Elections 2020 Democratic Primary Thread: The Announcements

Washington Post wrote an article about Harris' crime lab scandal when she was AG. Loads of ammunition to attack her for. Covering up the crime lab tech taking cocaine home with them, not disclosing the undependable and criminal history of that person to defendant lawyers when they testified to court to get convictions. Having no structured policy for what to do in certain situations speaks to poor management skills and caring about being re-elected more than doing the job properly. Dismissing thousands of cases to just try and make the scandal die down quicker rather than seeing which convictions were actually wrongfully impacted by the poor crime lab operations.

Thoughts?

Meh, Uncle Joe gives Trump problems and may take back some of the swing states Trump scooped up last time around.
If Bernie can make it through the primary (highly unlikely due to the corrupt DNC) I could see him getting a big spike but it would dip quick and plummet. Socialist agenda will scare off too many.
Trump 2020 if you like it or not.

If Dems want to win Uncle Joe needs to inject some testosterone into the left and lay a strong pimp hand down on the far leftists and bring it back to the center.

Joe Biden:

“I do not buy the concept, popular in the ’60s, which said, ‘We have suppressed the black man for 300 years and the white man is now far ahead in the race for everything our society offers. In order to even the score, we must now give the black man a head start, or even hold the white man back, to even the race,’ ” Biden told a Delaware-based weekly newspaper in 1975. “I don’t buy that.”

Gained a bit of respect for him upon reading this. Then I remembered this was 45 years ago and he would never say it again.

BLOOMBERG: NO
BILLIONAIRES BAIL ON BIDS

I've got to say that I'm relieved that Bloomberg isn't running.

He, imo, represents (from the old guard of Democrat) a true challenge for Trump's re-election bid.

If it's Biden, it's still a challenge but not so much so as it would've been had Bloomberg ran.

Joe Biden’s 2020 Plan Is Almost Complete. Democrats Are Impatient.

The pieces for a Joseph R. Biden Jr. presidential campaign are falling into place: His nucleus of advisers has begun offering campaign positions to seasoned Democratic strategists. They are eyeing a headquarters in Delaware or nearby Philadelphia and a launch date in the beginning of April. Mr. Biden’s family is on board — his wife, Jill, enthusiastically so.

Mr. Biden has also been privately reaching out to a range of influential Democrats, including party donors, members of Congress and allies in the early primary states, to gauge their support. A pillar of organized labor, the International Association of Fire Fighters, is prepared to support him in the Democratic primary.

Elizabeth Warren wants to break up Google, Amazon, and Facebook

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is coming for Big Tech in a big way: calling for the breakup of Amazon, Google, and Facebook.

The Massachusetts Democrat and 2020 presidential contender laid out an ambitious plan on Friday, March 8, to promote competition and level the playing field for more companies to compete.

Warren’s proposal includes legislation that would make big tech firms “platform utilities” and bar them from owning participants on their platforms — so when you search on Google for restaurants, for example, it wouldn’t be able to prioritize its ratings over Yelp’s. Warren says she would also appoint antitrust regulators that would roll back some of the biggest tech deals in recent years. Amazon would have to give up Whole Foods, for example, and Facebook would have to drop WhatsApp and Instagram.

Issues like this, Anita Hill, the Crime Bill are all things that's going to have to dealt with if Biden wants to have any chance at the Democratic nomination.

Do you think it's more likely he (a) changed his mind (b) merely changed his tune? I say (b). I write this as someone who agrees with his old way of framing the matter. I've noticed he has been making overtures to the "African American community" recently, and I'm thinking it's an attempt to "atone" for those past "mistakes".

Honestly, the number 1 problem traditional democrats are facing today is name recognition. They’ve repeatedly went out of their way to NOT build name recognition in their up and coming candidates.

They only plausible explanation is that they’re banking on Biden to run.

I’m not sure they banked on Bernie’s support however.

I think that’s a matter of having the White House for eight years. Now, with the GOP in the WH, you are seeing new names enter Washington and some of these people at least build name recognition with this primary.

As I've said, the establishment Democrats would rather lose the presidential election than to accept progressive policies.

Ohio not a top priority?! They have it on par with Texas WTF

Ohio isn’t a top priority, unfortunately.

Democrats lost all state wide elections in 2018. Cordray got buried by a shit candidate in the gubernatorial race. Several down ballot republicans won because of an (R) alone despite being shit candidates involved in a massive charter school scandal.

The only Democrat to win was Uber-popular Sherrod Brown. He won a close race against the absolute worst candidate to ever run for US Senate. Had the Republicans gotten a decent candidate to run, Sherrod would’ve lost too.

As an Ohioan, I hate it. We aren’t in play currently though. It’s a red state. Look at our state legislature.

The right dem (Castro or Beto) could potentially win Texas. None of the current Dems will win in Ohio.

Appreciate the insight. I retract my outrage.
