The white male stuff I don’t care about, but 77 years old is OLD. So he’ll be 79 when he’s elected? And running for second term when he’s 83-84? That’s progressive ?

This is a symptom of the divide between the college educated have's, and the unskilled labor have not's.

The liberal Intelligentsia is a fool if they think they can win elections with a base of minorites and have's.

Everyone benefits from free trade, though lots of people are too stupid to realize it. Either way, I don't see it as a significant issue from a political standpoint (very few issues are that significant from a political standpoint--maybe none are).

If he happens to win the nomination it sure makes is VP selection more vital than normal!

The Economics in Action at the end of the preceding section pointed out that U.S.
exports tend to be human-capital-intensive and U.S. imports tend to be unskilled-
labor-intensive. This suggests that the effect of international trade on U.S. factor mar-
kets is to raise the wage rate of highly educated American workers and reduce the
wage rate of unskilled American workers
.

This effect has been a source of much concern in recent years. Wage inequality—
the gap between the wages of high-paid and low-paid workers—has increased substan-
tially over the last 25 years. Some economists believe that growing international trade
is an important factor in that trend. If international trade has the effects predicted
by the Heckscher–Ohlin model, its growth raises the wages of highly educated
American workers, who already have relatively high wages, and lowers the wages of
less educated American workers, who already have relatively low wages.

---Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, Microeconomics 2nd Edition (2008)

Everyone benefits from free trade

There goes your theory that Krugman is some kind of guru to me.

There goes your theory that Krugman is some kind of guru to me.

After you besmirched him with that election bet, @waiguoren spent two months in the wilderness fishing with his bare hands, reading John Maynard Keynes, and studying the Chinese practice of Lingchi, or death by a thousand cuts, in preparation for a renewed offensive.

You have just suffered the first cut.

From: http://feelthebern.org/bernie-sanders-on-syria/
Bernie has described the civil war in Syria as a “quagmire in a quagmire” and his policy on Syria has three facets: address the humanitarian crisis created by the war; end ISIS; and phase-out Assad, the main party responsible for starting and continuing the war.

Bernie Sanders: Anti-Second Amendment, pro-regime change for Syria
Tulsi Gabbard: Pro-Second Amendment, anti-regime change for Syria

Oh yeah make no mistake, he's too fucking old and should step aside for someone younger.

I think tulsi would be a good VP choice, MSM will really hate that ticket that's for sure. Phase out Assad doesn't equal supporting military intervention. He'll have to define that though

Nope. Krugman is merely describing the Heckscher–Ohlin model. What specific shortcoming of that model leads you to the belief that trade harms no one?

I see. Slippery bastard, aren't you? The short answer to your question is that it doesn't play into my consideration of the issue in any way. If you're trying to change my mind (and be aware that it's an issue that I've considered a lot and read a lot on), you'd have more luck citing evidence (that is, if you think the evidence supports you--and understand that I see opening trade with China to be an exception to the general rule, though just in the shortish term).

Which model of trade do you follow, if not the Heckscher–Ohlin model?

Do you have a proprietary model?

This is a baffling response. Is it your understanding that Heckscher-Ohlin is the only widely known model? And did you read my post?

God, I just saw a report on TV that Bernie was running and the FIRST thing they mentioned was that he will probably have trouble because he's a 77-year old WHITE MALE running in a very diverse candidate pool.

You gotta love how the left just cannibalises itself.
While I agree the left routinely canabalizes itself, an old white male having trouble winning the dem vote isn’t the least bit surprising. I would say that tv report was being honest and should be commended for doing so. It’s no different than a minority having a difficult time winning the republican candidacy, of course that would be taboo to come out and say.

You just answered a question with a question. Which model do you think best captures the effects of international trade on the wages of low-skilled American workers?

No.

Yes.

Your question implied that it's H-O or nothing. You use different models to organize your thinking about different questions.

I said that I'd be more interested in seeing you look for contradictory evidence than trying to poke holes in any models or trying to push a model that has fared notoriously poorly in empirical testing. It appears to me that your own position on the issue (Free trade is bad? I haven't seen you get more specific) is driven primarily by prejudice and sort of irrational hygienic concerns (as is your view on immigration, and probably other things--you got issues, man).

Spit out my tea
Lold hard at the sudden image of a wild, bearded Wai reading Keynes by fire light while eating captured rodents next to a heavily notched stump with the words "Hack V Savaged" written on it in berry juice

I was low key pretty proud of that post.

Also, fun fact, for the past few years I thought the guy in @waiguoren's avatar (which I now know to be Ben Askren thanks to Google) was David "Gravity is a toxin and green tea is more effective than chemotherapy" Wolfe was his avatar.
