All 349 seats up for grabs, looks like it'll be hotly contested.

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Swedes vote on Sunday in a tight election dominated by fears over asylum and welfare, with the populist, anti-immigration Sweden Democrats vying to become the biggest party in a country long seen as a bastion of economic stability and liberal values.

Far-right parties have made spectacular gains throughout Europe in recent years following a refugee crisis sparked by civil war in Syria and ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and parts of Africa.

In Sweden, the influx of 163,000 asylum seekers in 2015 has polarized voters, fractured the cozy political consensus and could give the Sweden Democrats, a party with roots in the neo-Nazi fringe, a veto over which parties form the next government.

“Traditional parties have failed to respond to the sense of discontent that exists,” Magnus Blomgren, a social scientist at Umea University.

“That discontent maybe isn’t directly related to unemployment or the economy, but simply a loss of faith in the political system. Sweden isn’t alone in this.”

The center-left bloc, uniting the minority governing Social Democrat and Green parties with the Left Party, is backed by about 40 percent of voters, recent opinion polls indicate, with a slim lead over the center-right Alliance bloc.

The Sweden Democrats, who want the country to leave the European Union and put a freeze on immigration, have about 17 percent, up from the 13 percent they scored in the 2014 vote, opinion polls suggest.

But their support was widely underestimated before the last election and some online surveys give them as much as 25 percent, a result that would likely make them the biggest party, dethroning the Social Democrats for the first time in a century.

Any predictions for how this goes?

Going to be exiting. The Swedish media has been a shit show of bias against SD. The national Swedish television station just got in deep doo doo for some of their coverage

At least ten major newspapers published today editorials about that people should not vote SD. It's odd considering the Left party finances militant socialist guerrillas throughout the world, they even send financial aid to a Palestinian group that have committed terror acts but no newspaper warns about voting for them.

State controlled media's managers and co-workers constantly get caught clicking like on anti-SD message and publicly denounced a comment by SD in one of the final debates, something neither state controlled media in Norway or Denmark would do (they commented on it yesterday).

I personally don't vote for SD but the amount of bullying they receive makes me at least considerate it as a big f#ck you to the establishment.

My predictions are that SD will be the biggest party or at least neck and neck with the socialist democrats. What happens after the election is that the other parties will try their best to keep SD away from power, even if it means sacrificing their own politics like they did last election.

Something that is odd is that there are no secret ballots in Sweden. The voters have to pick their ballots in front of everyone in the vicinity, which forces many to pick a ballot from every party. It will change next year after the election (of course) due heavy criticism from the EU .

Some tidbits from the election in Sweden.

    * The other day, an Islamist in the Green Party offered 3,000 Muslim votes to the right block if they granted a big mosque to them.
    * The Social Democrats have spread lies from their official social media accounts in Arabic and Somali that the right parties are a major threat to Muslims.

I've noticed an unusual number of articles coming even from English-based news sources commenting on this election for the last few weeks (very rare) and with the SD firmly in sight to make clear that this is a Neo-Nazi political party. Yes SD, not the AfS that splintered off from it? They seem to be incredulous that this is potentially happening in Sweden.

Which is quite hilarious since SD is one of the most Israel friendly parties in Sweden. The left party are not even allowed to participate in the so-called kippa walks because of their antisemitism. You also have prominent politicians in the social democrats that happily receive awards from groups that have maps where Israel doesn't exist.

The problem isn't antisemitism in SD, the establishment is worried that the mass-immigration won't continue.

Fuck Sake. Well, there goes that narrative. As you know, I'm far more privy to the political happenings in Norway and that's been pretty much sealed since 2013, but this is quite a fascinating turn of events I didn't really expect of Sweden.

How the can it continue though? The National Institute of Economic Research has been saying that Sweden’s municipalities will require 40bn SEK more for the welfare state than what the Social Democrats are pledging through 2022.

Isn't Alternative for Sweden the party that was banished from the aforementioned accused-Nazi-sympathizers party for being Nazi sympathizers? Good grief, that's like being expelled from the Republican Party for being incompetent, no?

Also, looking at the party's wikipedia, their big policy positions are "repatriation," "flat tax," and "law and order."

Yikes. One of the kind of nice caveats in their organization was being pro-animal rights. But then I remembered that was also Hitler's one nice policy caveat lol.

Bruh, most white supremacists can support Israel (and most do if they're even slightly pragmatic and not just trying to channel the National Socialist party for history's sake), especially when juxtaposed against the darker, less Western, more scary Arabs. I have a neo-zionist former work colleague who also believed that antisemites supported Israel because they wanted the Jews to remain there and for Western Jews to eventually go there. I have no concept of the validity of that argument, though, and I've not seen anything personally to validate it.

Honestly, for all my confusion about the alt-right here in the States, its hostility to Jews/Israel is the most confounding. It makes absolutely zero sense for a right winger or white nationalist in the West to be antisemitic. I usually just write it off as a relic of right-wing ideology that hasn't yet fully passed.

Whereas Norway's H/FrP government spread half-truths to the Somalis that the country is racist and xenophobic to dissuade more potential asylum seekers from attempting to come.

At least part of it has to do with influential Jewish academics, interest groups and politicians that have heavily promoted multiculturalism in western countries since the end of World War II. There's actually something to that picture, but it turns deep-end paranoid and nonsensical when extrapolated into a vast global conspiracy.

True indeed! Prominent Jews and Estonians pushed for Sweden to become a multicultural society and a Jewish owned newspaper published their opinion pieces until the politicians agreed.

The welfare state is slowly but surely eroding. The care queues have increased rapidly the last four years and they have canceled important maternity wards, that have resulted in women giving birth in their cars (too long distance to the nearest maternity ward), some patients have been flown to Finland.

A big and current case in media is about a woman that suffered from prolapse had to wait more than a year on care so her mother paid $10,000 dollar for her to receive an operation at a private hospital.

So close but yet so far.

I think a lot of the exasperation is magnified considering that Jews are ironically probably the most ethnocentric group in the world themselves, not just from a standpoint of cultural mentality but to where it has become tangibly disadvantageous in terms of health and genetic disease risks. It's not hard to see the motivation behind why many of them would be opposed to a strong sense of European identity and nationalism given what they've suffered through historically.

I think that no matter in which way the results lean we're going to have a tough parliament situation when it comes to creating government. No one wants to cooperate with SD but there's also no coalition that can gain any majority vote without them, unless the opponents lay down their votes. Since the December Agreement was torn up it will probably take quite a bit for the Red-Green or the Alliance to lay down their votes for the other side to prevent SD from having that much influence.

It can go in many ways, and even if the surveys have managed to accurately portray the situation there are many undecided votes that can swing the results quite a bit. Odds are still that we're getting a new government, and I think that's needed.

When it comes to SVT I think the most recent thing was a bit overblown, even though I definitely thing they were definitely in the wrong. Some tried to make it into that they actively distanced themselves from SD, which obviously wasn't what they did, but they should not say anything like that about any individual phrasings either, they should just be passive onlookers (even though they were referring to a paragraph in the radio and TV law). But to take a different view I think SVT also showed that they aren't shying away from things that play into SD's hands when they recently aired the show Agenda with the evidence for that people with foreign origins commit rapes to a much higher degree.

There's definitely plenty of room for criticism towards the media, and they should always be reported to the review committee if they do something wrong, but it often can get one-sided for some and they conveniently forget every sign that doesn't support the idea of strong bias. I'm not saying that you do, I'm talking in general here.
