I know people are going to flood in here claiming they read a bunch of books, when in reality, they spend 8 hours a day on Sherdog.

Let's be honest, most adults do NOT read books regularly anymore. They're too preoccupied with online forms of media for entertainment.
And then there are those of us who treasure them and proudly have a large personal library of first editions that women love when they walk in the door.
Until you get really esoteric about the rare gems.

See when I read, it's normally an escape from the stressors of life and I enjoy keeping it simple. Most would probably laugh at my kindle account, lots bland, every plot is the same, spy thrillers. I'll read one a week on average. But by no means is that stimulating my brain. I just find reading more enjoyable than most television shows

Also, not a Trump supporter but just wanted to chime in against the line in the sand notion that readers are inherently smarter

How many books do you read in a year?

It's not a judgement thing or a "I'm better than you" gimmick

Yes it is

You don't have to read Dostoevsky and Nietzsche to be eligible.

This just confirmed it

My hypothesis is simple: If reading and writing were common practice in the US, we wouldn't see what we're seeing in this Presidential race. If reading and writing were encouraged and hyped by the media as much as movies, shows and music, it would raise the overall level of discussion. It could even eradicate things like bigotry, misogyny, racism and immigration paranoia.

So just tell me Trump fans: how many books do you read in a year?

If a mod or a platinum could create a poll, it would be great. Just answer with a simple number if you don't want to engage in the discussion.
___________

PS: I rarely post in the War Room so be kind...

Funny, if that is your objective, why is your question strictly for Trump Supporters? Some of the most braindead, ill informed people on this board and in this country are Hillary Supporters.

Oh, and how many books do I read a year? At least 70. I don't have the time I used to. But I eat a lot of leafy vegetables and drink lots of water. Think about it...

I have ADHD, so I can't sit through a television show or very many movies. I get distracted and start doing something else. Literature is nice because you can do it whilst taking a shit or on the treadmill.

This post was almost good till you tried to convince everyone you read 70 books a year or more.

I believe the type of material one reads matters the most. Someone could say "I read Sherdog everyday." That's not quite the same as reading War and Peace.

I also believe it's important to read different subject matters as well.

That's why I said books. Sherdog doesn't qualify. I accept magazines but it's a can of worm: where do we draw the line? The guy who said "Soldiers of Fortune", I put him in the reading team. If you're reading a TMZ type magazine, I don't think you qualify.

I just don't want to be the one to draw the line. That's why I just said books, no matter which one. It's also why I don't really agree with your "the type of material one reads matters the most" theory. It has its merit and I see your point but it would be silly and pointless to start classify what's worth reading and what's not...

People who you disagree with must not read. This is a groundbreaking theory.

It isn't for a Trump supporter. He can't say "I disagree with you, therefore you don't read." He can use any other shennanigan learned from him Messiah but he can't accuse me of not reading because I can quote books on demand.

LOL
My place has a sliding ladder.
My standard for women is, I like em if they look them over and find one they want to borrow.

Trouble is, I learned the hard way not to loan books to women.

I'm failing to see your point. It looks like you've basically dehumanized anyone who votes for a candidate you don't like.

I know people are going to flood in here claiming they read a bunch of books, when in reality, they spend 8 hours a day on Sherdog.
I spend 8 hours a day on Serdog and still read 2-3 books a month. In French and English. That doesn't make me intelligent or better, just literate.

All my readings have mold my mind to reject bigotry, discrimination and hate of "strangers." Maybe it's what I choose to read. I read a lot of Fantasy, Sci-Fi and classic literature.

It doesn't make me better, it just gives me a wider perspective than a guy who want to "get rid of all immigrants and make our Country, founded on immigration and acceptance of the others, great again.

Imagine Ultra-Patriotic Trump saying these words:

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Crazy, wouldn't it be?

He's the most entertaining candidate out there. If he gets elected, you will have 4-8 years of entertainment every time you flip on the TV. Much more fun than boring, low energy Clinton.

Guys an atheist that tricked all the evangelicals, he's in the WWE Hall of Fame, LOL.

As for anything else, who cares? None of it matters. We're $21,000,0000,000,000+ in debt. The country is fucked no matter what. So, just vote for the guy that makes you laugh and enjoy yourself.

In the past calander year I have read:

A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr
Civil Procedure by Yeazell
Torts by Prosser, Wade and Schwartz
Contracts and Treatises by Farnesworth
Property by Dukeminier and others. I can't remember all the authors
Constitutional Law by Chemerinsky
Criminal Law by Robinson
A River Runs Through it by Maclean
American Psycho by Ellis
The new Harry Potter play
Until Proven Innocent about the Duke Lacrosse case

Currently reading

Business Organizations

Re-reading

The Art of the Deal by Trump

I'm not dehumanizing anyone. My premise is clear: more reading = more open minds. A closed mind individual is still human, just much easier to manipulate.

Do you agree?

Look, Trump himself has written more books than I'll ever write. I bet he'd have to read a lot to reach the number of books I read in my life!

He's still human, I'm not better than him. But he can't manipulate me.

At what point between this thought entering your head, and you dashing to your keyboard, did you decide it would be worth anybody's time? Help me understand how you survive day to day.
