The problem is the physical limitation of the human eye. It's apparent after numerous missed and bad calls so far in this World Cup that refs are human and they can't see everything that happens. Take the Mexico vs Cameroon game for example: bogus offside calls like those could have easily been overturned with instant replay.

Not sure how a linesman in position (especially at this level) misses an offside; it should be extremely rare.

Also, how would replays fix that problem?

If a ref calls a bad offside, you give the attacking team a free kick? If he misses an offside and the attackers score, do you discount the goal and give the defending team a free kick? Who decides when to check the replay?

It sounds pretty miserable to me.

It is ver hard to play against teams that play only defense and stick to the gameplan...mexico did it against brazil (and it only worked because the GK had the best performance of his life) and iran is doing it to argentina...i do believe argentina will score in the 2nd half though...
