Someguyy probably thinks that was a Nigerian foul too.

The other day you mentioned fitness tests for F.I.F.A. refs being instituted in 1986.

My father, who retired around 1986, had fitness tests his entire career, four times a year. We live in Montreal and he had to fly to Houston for them, where there was a variety of fitness tests he had to pass as well as a full medical examination.

Del Bosque is Banderas level. This lady is KG level.

Ya - I tried to google it. I remember the outrage over the '82 WC game ref'd by George something or other from England and then in the lead up to the '86 WC all potential refs came to one location a few months ahead of the WC to be tested. Maybe it was the first time testing was centralized before a WC.

Ask your dad about the '82 game ref'd by the English guy who barely strayed from the center-line. It was awful and drew outrage.

Actually '83 had a few games with horrible refereeing. To me, the current quality of refereeing looks better than the past.

I did, actually, he didn't know anything about it.

If it was in fact a World Cup game it would have been his last, F.I.F.A. referees are assessed each and every game and that would have been it for him. If you don't respect the diagonal system of control, you get burned on the assessment.

Also worth mentioning, there are countless assessments before a referee can be considered for the World Cup, so I wish I had more information on this could possibly have happened.

My father said he's been impressed with the referees so far; he mentioned one in particular but I can't remember the name.

He was never allowed to referee an international game again. I'll look up the games from '82 and his name will be obvious.
