Exactly. It's ridiculous that fifa is getting crapped on. Do something to change your government if it bothers you so much.

You sound like Brazil is a democracy.. In 500 years of history, we have like 80 democracy years. We had a millitary dictatorship that was only over in 1985 and the police structure is the same. We have a thing called millitary police, that beats up all the insurgents. We also have some of the most powerful media channels, like. TV Globo, that say every attempt to change the countries political situation is a communist threat. Also, we have never really had a middle class. The whole country was founded on slavery and plantations. So we have a small elite and a large amount of explored poor people with almost no political consciousness.

Thats not America you are talking about, things dont go as easy here

I always thought the World Cup should always be held in Europe..........maybe USA and Japan, also.

US easily can hold the World Cup again. Massive stadiums everywhere.

Still the highest attended one no?

Id go to a us soccer game and watch USA smirch Gercany.

I think you mean exploited. Not being a dick, as I only speak American.

How do you feel about Brazil hosting?

Kicking myself for not going to Pasadena to catch a match back in '94.

Was still an utter shoegazing mardarse after Dutch smirched us in qualifier though.

Seen only 2 posts from you and its pretty clear you are a pretty ignorant person.

Such idiotic statements.

Economic impacts of the FIFA Soccer World Cups
in France 1998, Germany 2006, and outlook for
South Africa 2010

From its conclusion:

The analyses of the WCs held in France in 1998 and in Germany in 2006 agree
with former empirical findings on the effects of large sporting events, namely, that
hardly any WCs and comparable events have short-run positive impacts on tourism,
employment, and income.

Sup Possum, FIFA is taking a big part of the blame here in Rio.

Thing is: everyone knows FIFA is a mafia, but when we were voting to decide the host city, everyone wanted the WC..

Yeah, that's the one part where I disagree with the protesters right now.

It's known that a WC is a money drain so the time to protest hard against it was when Brazil was first making a bid.

Now that it's already done, you have to go through with it. No point in sabotaging it. I see a lot of signs saying "Don't come to the World Cup," but wouldn't that just make it worse at this point?

The World Cup is happening so you might as well encourage people to come and visit and spend money. Hotel, restaurant, transportation workers, etc., they'd all be harmed if people don't come.

So...this wouldn't happen at Bulgaria? Please...get off that high horse, kid.

As much money as FIFA takes, it's certainly less than what corruption and bureaucracy drains. That's what happened at South Africa and Brazil. The costs rocketed because people at high places needed some dough.

Also, don't underestimate laziness. Not being on schedule and lack of order helped to rise costs as well.

When is England gonna get the WC again?

Seems like never at this point.

Well, I love football so of course I will enjoy the WC. The bad part is that Rio is such a mess because we are trying to get the city ready in like 3 months because we didnt do anything before. This whole mess is making me take 1h30 to get to the university, violence is uprising and the city is REALLY overcrowded, the services are totally saturated. I will be traveling abroad during most of the WC because its so chaotic. I will be back for the semis though.

Tldr: im mad, but not that much because I fucking love football

Btw, i used to have great english but now I cant remember the goddamn vocabulary, haha. Brain cells aint as speedy as they used to be

That's the point- countries which don't need to invest heavily in infrastructure and stadia are less prone to corruption and scheduling problems.

And I'm not suggesting countries like Bulgaria, son.

The good part about this situation is that I see some maturity growing here. Who would think the majority of Brazil would be mad at a World Cup? The natl team bus got filled with stickers from a teachers protest.

As much as people here like to sound apocalyptic, Brazil has come a long way in the last 10-15 years

I was at the final.

Though only 9 at the time. Rooted for Brasil. Left satisfied.
