Ronaldo surrounded by average players, gonna have to put the team on his back.

Really? I actually think they got put out a well decent team TBF.

-----------------------Beto-------------------

perreira-------Alves----------Pepe------Coentrao

-------moutinho------Carvalho-----Veloso-------

-------Nani------Almeida/postiga/eder----Ronaldo-

for example. I dont feel that is too bad.

I still think if Ronaldo isn't good to go, they might be getting an early ticket home. There's no one who can work as a leader backup.

BTW, I haven't see too much talk about the Mexi-cans here. Lack of faith, or fear of being besmirched by the Americans? LOL.

Read above your post.

Is Tiago from Atletico Madrid injured or something? Why is he not on the team?

But anyway, Portugal hasn't impressed with their individual talent or their play since 2006 but they always make it deep. I'd be surprised if they don't at least make it to the 2nd round this time.

Mexico's recent history has shown that they have struggled through qualifying but have managed to do a good job getting to the round of 16. I feel that Mexico has an honest change to get 2nd place in their group(I see Brazil finishing 1st), and Mexico has given Brazil tough games. US group is a tough one but they also have a chance to get out of the group stage.

Luis Suarez is doubtful for World Cup after injuring his knee - will have surgery today that normally takes 4-6 weeks to recover. The striker - who was voted PFA Player of the Year for his stunning performances at Liverpool this season - is Uruguay's talisman for the finals. England take on Uruguay in the second game of Group D in Brazil.

Damn!

Hold it there. Off the top of my head, he will be ready to smash teh Limeys.

4 weeks, he misses the opening match vs. Costa Rica and is good to go.

Anyone going to this?

Franco Di Santo cut from Argentina's squad and Quaresma out of Portugal's.

USA won't make it out of their group so they won't have a chance to "besmirch" anyone.

This fucking sucks. Three of the very best South American players might not make it because of injuries: Falcao, Vidal and now Suarez.

Anyway, does anyone know why Ben Arfa didn't get called up for France? The guy is legit. France as a whole is a bit underrated. Benzema, Ribery, Pogba, Remy, these guys are all le quality.

They got good first 11 that could go far. That said dont see them beating Brazil, Germany or Spain. That said those 3 teams could take each other out and a team like Uruguay then take out say Brazil. Brazil vs Uruguay in Confed was close game.

why are teams training in portugal? can they not just actually go to brazil and train seems odd

Yeah, but a Suarez-less Uruguay is pretty toothless. He's their Ronaldo. Cavani's Uruguay performances are pretty average.

In fact, I'd say Uruguay are already screwed. Suarez won't be 100% even if he makes it so their chances of making it out of that hideous group just took a big hit.

Well ofc not having Suarez is gonna hurt them. Even so they got Cavani and Forlan (sub him late and he might score a freekick if nothing else). They also got Abel Hern
