If Burnley go 1-0 up in 10-20 minutes (like they did against Chelsea), how will United react? Chelsea was 2-1 up 8 minutes later but that was Chelsea who already looks like a team that is ready to win titles, United is far from that.

Chelsea look decent, but have had easy fixtures so far, I have been most impressed with City. City have had the two most difficult fixtures out of any of the other "giants" (Newcastle away is a potential banana skin and Liverpool came 2nd last year) and have collected 6 comfortable points.

Now that I think about it, Burnley fans have a reputation for being rowdy and creating a hostile atmosphere. I remember watching them live against Arsenal for a league cup game when I was younger, their fans were pretty intense! ... Going to their stadium low on confidence will not be an easy game, IMO. Especially since they still have that "newly promoted air of optimism", they will want to pour more misery onto Utd.

Burnely could easily win it if they score first. Even if they don't they can still beat us. Teams are just thriving on our cowardice and inability to get ourselves back into games. This is Manchester United, we made our name off of comebacks ffs lol, and yet here we about to face Burnley in a game being perceived as a must win. And it probably is, like I said drop points and the knives will start coming out. LVG is already getting some abuse after the MK Dons loss ffs.

It's going to be a crazy week for the club both on and off the field. We desperately need to get a couple more deals done. Far to many players just don't look up for it.

TBH, I think some of that abuse is justified. Man U are not in the CL, they are already 5 points off the premier league after 2 games. The FA cup and the "easier to actually win" League cup were realistic targets of having something to build on for the future. That's pretty much gone now.

The Sunderland game was a slog and just two days ago and he wasn't going to play a number of players because of the quick turnaround. Our injuries are crippling our depth as well.

He still put a team out capable of winning on paper. This squad just has a serious mental barrier to overcome and it's been there since Fergie retired.

but, but, but .... pre-season! ... You should have beaten MK Dons ... even with injuries ...

I don't know, it's still early days with Van Gaal, but that job is becoming a pressure cooker right now.

Well the good news is if there was any uncertainty that Di Maria might not start against Burnley, after the MK Dons result he definitely will. Or at least come off the bench with more than a 10 minute run.

I hope he gets given the Eden Hazard 'play wherever you want bro' freedom.
Then he can pick up the other players slack in midfield.

Where have I said we shouldn't have beaten them? I just said he put a team that was capable of winning. It's also a team of players on the fringes and a collection of youth players put in a system that is unfamiliar to them hence the lack of cohesion and the poor performance. The injuries and quick turnaround are valid reasons as to why this team was put out to being with.

If anything Pre-Season shows you our issues are genuinely psychological. The second it's competitive and the tempo gets dialed up it's back to the frailties that were so evident last season. This squad is capable of more, this same squad won a title under Ferguson but he is no longer here and it seems they cannot cope with that change.

LVG will find out who is capable of stepping up to the demands of his system and the rest will hopefully be sent packing. The media and rival fans will always look to pounce, but LVG just has an aura about him that is keeping me very confident that he will get it right if given time. His track record should allow him that much.

Just realised that Afobe (scored 2 goals against Utd for the MK Dons last night) is actually a Gooner on loan!! Makes it even sweeter! All part of the plan! lol

LvG has to fix a squad which has had problems for years which was only held together by the confidence and aura of SAF. All that was blown away last season, the transition has been atrocious with the experience of Rio, Vidic and Evra all leaving and without a proper leader. (Rooney isn't a leader, he was the only option.).

Oh dear, Celtic out of the CL.

Saw this posted in Arsenalmania's Man U thread:

In January 2003, Van Gaal was SACKED by Barcelona leaving them just three points above the relegation zone. #TacticalGenius

His first job after he resigned as Holland manager after failing to qualify for the 2002 WC with one of the best Dutch teams ever.

I agree, having him as captain is a mistake. He is way too prone to being sulky. Thierry Henry was also not a very effective captain for Arsenal back in the day, when we are losing, most of the time, his hands are on his hips, he's sulking and doesn't lift the team.

Terry, Gerrard, Yaya are examples of good captains.

Di Maria was like that at first, but over the seasons at Madrid he done alright for himself. Because he's so lightweight that's why he's so good with the ball.

True, it does make him more zippy and pacy ... but, this is the premiership! I always feel like you need a bit more muscle, someone like Bale, CR7 will always excel in the premiership. Skinny, flyweight players like Di Maria/Neymar have never really been that successful in the premiership ... way too injury prone and get bullied by the Stokes/Evertons/WBAs of the league.

Aguero has scored 2 goals in 2 games already and he looks like he isn't even fully fit yet ... crazy, I can see him having a great season this year, if he stays fit.

Dzeko is hitting form and Jovetic looked really bright against Liverpool ... City are looking scary!
