$20 PPV’s or Subscription

But is boxing still as big as it used to be? I’ve noticed a bunch of the younger crowd is really getting into the UFC. $20 might even build a stronger fan base if these kids borrow $20 from their parents to watch the fights with their buddies.
No but the argument that 20$ subscriptions will revitalize the sport should go out the window looking at boxing. Both UFC and boxing are at a low point right now, but the cheap price to watch boxing isn't bringing new people to it. I think if it would work we'd see it happening in boxing by now.

For real. $20... $200 ...
they can charge whatever the fuck they want

Won't change nothin for me.

Netflix just needs to get rights for all the content and include it in their monthly subscription. They did it with RAW, they can do it here.
Since they're likely going to Netflix, the most sense would be:

Fights Nights available on the Standard plan

PPVs (now just called Premium events) and Fight Nights available on the Premium plan

Or, they can add commercials and it be included in the standard Netflix package. This is probably way more lucrative for both parties.

They will have tons and tons of ads either way. That's a given.

It'll probably be up to their new streaming outlet. The UFC is looking to get paid by whomever gives them the best financial deal, and they'll probably let the streamer figure out the math of making a profit on the delivery to the viewer.

So, maybe the better question is, "Can Netflix or ESPN+ benefit from selling the PPV's for $20 or having a monthly subscription for all their content?"

That is true. Unless the UFC goes back to trying to make the money from the PPV’s themselves. That’ll probably up the promotion of fights and the prices though. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen.

I feel like that’s more the talent and how boxing is run. We’re seeing a resurgence with the Saudi money pouring in, but boxing hadn’t been talked about for quite a while before hand. There are still big boxing stars fighting that catch me off guard, I don’t end up hearing anything until the day of, but then again I barely follow boxing at all.

I´m overseas, so fights for me are at 3 AM. Not watching anything live. Maybe when Mirko performed and I was awake for it. If it was on my timeline, 30$ would be a great deal.
That makes a lot of sense. They’d really only see an increase in the American market. Maybe two fight oass subscriptions. One for just the library and another tier that includes live events or something.

I guess mathematically speaking if you cut the PPV cost in ½ would you sell twice as many in order to male the same money? Or cut it by 75% then they'd have to sell 4x as many as normal so my guess is that it wouldn't benefit them at all...i wonder if the subscription idea would work with an upfront cost if a subscription then a highly discounted PPV cost for subscription holders only....say $250 yearly subscription with a $20 PPV cost.
I wouldn’t be mad at that. I pay the ESPN subscription and I’m just hoping they leave ESPN. I hate that damn app and I barely use it for some fight nights. It would be fine for recaps and going back to watch fights if their UI wasn’t so bad.

I just feel like they can also inflate their ratings for shareholders as well. “We sold 3 mil PPV’s, highest in history ever, give us money”

They need to at least make the PPV purchasable WITHOUT also needing a ESPN+ subscription.

For a casual fan, they decide to pony up the $80, then go to order, and find out they also need to pay for ESPN+ for at least a month for $11.99.
ESPN just announced a new streaming service, it's $30/month!

It sounds cheap compared to ppv era. But cheap price = lots customers. However big company paying for rights can pull big investors and partners. Basically the UFC is providing the product and brand for views and fanbase. Interesting that tje deal is up officially, is it. And noone has snatched the rights yet. They'll be fine I'd be more worried about my poor self than Dejna 🙂. But God bless Dana mr White.

IMO PPV model killed boxing.

It used to be one of the most popular sports until greedy fucks figured out how to gatekeep it instead of just putting it on network tv.

Imagine if you had to pay the radio station a one time fee just to listen live to the play by play of the Rumble in the Jungle.

The fact that its now $80 for a PPV is absurd, its outrageous and so over priced. On top of the $10.99 ESPN+ per month Sub that you need. Its way too much money.

I know I'm an old fogey and totally out of touch but I remember buying UFC 8 for $13.95 and it was amazing, I felt like it was worth every dollar, the fights were so much fun and violent and entertaining, they want to tell you its bigger now but nah UFC 8 sold way more PPVs than current 2025 UFC PPVs do. UFC 8 did 300K buys, todays PPVs probably don't even get 100K anymore, especially with how bad the cards are and the gameplan point fighters.

I just can't justify it in my brain that its gone from 13.95 too now 80 (or 90 if you want HD4K or whatever) plus the ESPN 10.99 a month sub you need. Its absolute madness. I get that everything goes up, I totally understand it, thats fine but I just feel the price increase is far too much, its gone up way too much. And the thing is 80 large ones isn't the end is it? because its goes up every year, soon it will be $100, then it will be $120 and so on and so on.... where are we going with all of this?!

As much as I don’t like the idea, I get putting it behind a subscription and having a low PPV price, but the insane price coupled with the subscription is far too much. Especially when there is one PPV a month, I can’t imagine how many people can barely keep up or try to. I don’t bother, but I would certainly pay $20 per PPV if it happened. Especially because these shady links don’t work 100% of the time and tend to cut out randomly.

Maybe a lot more people will buy it if it’s $20. Then Dana might be able to afford snow on the driveway AND the roof.

The Saudis (when they host fight events) sell the PPV's for $20-25 to tamp down on streaming.

The UFC could have turned Fight Pass into a gold mine.
