1st time watched star wars

The 1st one is the pure, good shit. Empire is a great add on, but that's where it started to devolve into family soap opera and the entire shindig began to free fall. I grew up a yuge fan of the series, but the bigger the brand grows, the more I realize... I just like the original one.

I can see why some would as there is a clear shift towards drama after the first film, granted there is some drama in that film as well but its also more deliberately pulpy and a lot of the interactions are more witty banter. For all the talk of Lucas being a bad actors director I do actually think that is a lot of the reason for the films success(the same as American Graffiti) was the banter between Han and Leia especially appealing to people who most likely didn't care much about sci fi/fantasy otherwise.

I thought it might have been mostly nostalgia... almost everyone loves those three first movies... but almost everyone who does was a kid when they saw them too.

While the rest of them were varying degrees of terrible, but if you watched them as a kid they're most likely awesome.

Really though if you look at the kind of demographic who are most likely to be hardcore starwars fans I wouldn't say it actually lines up with just being nostalgia for a fad. People who would have gotten caught up with that hype as children/teens when the originals originally came out would now be in there 50's and early 60's yet I would say your classic starwars fan age is more someone like Mike Stoklasa from Red Letter Media at 41(same as me). I have vague memories of seeing Jedi at the cinema age 5-6 but really my attachment to the films developed much more in the late 80's and early 90's via VHS/TV.

It seems odd now I spose but I actually felt Starwars in that period was almost cultish, a bit like Star Trek in the 70's were by it didn't really have much mainstream presence but was getting picked up on by a lot of kids.

Agreed. George said, on paper, the original scene of ROTS would've been too long, a whole movie's worth of just Obi and Anakin fucking around in space and on Grievous' ship, playing off each other. That sounded a whole lot like the Star Wars I like for the same reasons you mentioned.

To add to the argument of why I just like the '77 flick alone - the way this series just never ends and every bad guy beaten, problem solved ends up being for nothing - I feel perfectly satisfied with how A New Hope ends and imagining my own sequels, and resolution for the threat of Empire.

Also, have you ever listened to the radio drama version of A New Hope? Specifically, the scene where Tarkin blows up Alderaan and Vader just stands there?

(it's @2h56m57s but time stamp should automatically take you there)

For some reason, people don't get the same horrifying realization while watching the movie. It's just another explosion. But, seriously, they destroy an entire planet... Vader just watches. And that's the hero I'm eventually supposed to feel for? Root for his redemption? Fuck that guy. He's a piece of shit. In my imaginary Star Wars sequels, he has no relation to Luke and gets rekt. Luke ignites lightsaber right down his throat, Godzilla style:

The film is basically pushed a bit more towards pulp than the following ones so you don't get the same kind of reactions to situations like that you might have in Empire or Jedi but Vaders redemption was only at the cost of his own life.

Personally I think the shift in the sequels was a good idea that stopped things becoming played out but Lucas's original idea was more for a kind of Flash Gordon like serial were by Luke and co would defeat a different Grand Moff like Tarken in every film.

So only 1st 2 movies are awesome snd others suck?
New Hope
Empire
Return of Jedi
Return of Sith
Rouge one
Mandalorian

Are all really great viewing.
Solo wasnt that bad but suffered from the last Jedi a few months before.

1977 date movie
Empire Strikes Back is even better IMO. Return of the Jedi is very good in parts, not great in others, but a great end to the story. The prequels are okay for the story if you love the universe, but not necessary IMO.

What a masterpiece I was never into the science fiction movies but too much time at home for corona and I really loved the 1st movie
100% agree
The first movie was straight up uncut dope

The pod racing sequences were exhilarating. The gungun empire was amazing and completely believable. The medichlorian talk was a great nod towards the smarter fans who wanted that hard sci fi edge.
The series really is great for the original trilogy.
Around the 4th movie the quality really drops off, I mean it looks like they were made 30 years before the first 3. The series really gets back on track around movie no.8 but I have a hard time seeing it topping the masterpiece of no.8 which is probably our generations Citizen Kane

OP has quarantine sickness. Too much porn and shitposting has turned his brain to dogshit.

No, not all of them.

You've watched the original Star Wars, now referred to as Episode 4.

Now watch Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back. Its one of the greatest SciFi movies of all time.

As for the 'Stop watching Star Wars after that' response, you're going to want to know what happened next because Episode 5 has a hell of a finale and cliffhanger.

I'd suggest then watching Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith, for backstory of the events that led up to Episode 4&5, it really adds alot to the Star Wars lore, and sets up for the biggest bad guy of the entire saga in Episode 6.

Then, and finally, watch Episode 6 Return of The Jedi to see how its all resolved.

Don't bother with Episode 1&2, they have major issues and don't add much to the saga. If you want to look up one of the best lightsaber fight scenes of any any of the movies, look up 'Darth Maul fight scene' on YouTube. Its undoubtedly the best thing in either of the first two movies.

As for Disney's Star Wars movoes, don't bother. Besides the amazing CGI, they're complete crap.

You know Rouge One was actually a good movie.

Now go watch the 2nd one: ESB, which is even better than the first... then STOP, don't watch any of the other movies.

And end it on that note? No, ROTJ is required. It has its issues (mainly the ewoks and the last battle) but it wraps up the saga in a satisfying, meaningful way.

I saw it in the theater when it first came out, totally mind blowing for a 7th grader. That movie turned the world into SIFI fans. It is hard to overstate how revolutionary it was back then.
