I watched the first one in The Dominion Theatre which is a 2k seat theatre now but used to be a cinema. It was huge so I assume the capacity was much the same when it was a cinema. As cinema events go it was massive for me and I had no idea what Star Wars was. They put a bit of effort into the front of the cinema. I watched the next two in The Odeon in Leicester Square which is where all the UK premiers are held.

The 1st one is the pure, good shit. Empire is a great add on, but that's where it started to devolve into family soap opera and the entire shindig began to free fall. I grew up a yuge fan of the series, but the bigger the brand grows, the more I realize... I just like the original one.

But! Keep us posted on your thoughts on the rest of them. I always enjoy reading newcomer thoughts on the series. And no shame if you dig the prequels or the sequels more. Don't let people bully you into conformity. A ton of great artists worked on all of these movies, so it's actually quite easy to disappear in that aspect of the other films and ignore the acting & storytelling flaws.

Then they didnt make another one for 20 years and anything after that, well you can judge for yourself.

Now go watch the 2nd one: ESB, which is even better than the first... then STOP, don't watch any of the other movies.

Gotta at least watch the finale of the trilogy even if it's not as good overall as the first two. Still has some of the best moments of the series.

I'd love to sit with someone watching a new hope for the first time. Really curious to see if it holds up or if bc I fell in love with it as a kid it's just a nostalgia trip.

I thought it might have been mostly nostalgia... almost everyone loves those three first movies... but almost everyone who does was a kid when they saw them too.

While the rest of them were varying degrees of terrible, but if you watched them as a kid they're most likely awesome.
