No Babylon 5 for the 90's?

Star Trek Voyageur and no DS9?

You have to give it to the 2000's for so much incredible content, it was a big step up. However, the 90's were magical for tv series, especially sci-fi. While special effects improved, like shows across other genres, the big departure from the 80's were storylines and characters being allowed to be darker/grittier and more mature.

I'm not sure how influential Babylon 5 was, but it finished what Twin Peaks started, giving us a complete serialized story (episodic gems thrown in too), so bloody epic! DS9 and SG1 leaned more episodic but eventually climaxed into serialized masterpieces.

I really miss those 24 to 26 episode runs per season. You can lay out a compelling overarching narrative and still have plenty of self contained stories. It lets studios take chances on different writers/directors. Budgets are so over bloated these days.

Anyway, the 90's paved the way for the bangers of the 2000's and later. It's too bad things have regressed in recent years, this should be the golden age of tv with the tech and accessibility out there.

I think it's the 2000s and I'd add Rome, True Blood, Fringe, The Tudors, The Event, Heroes, Survivor, Spartacus, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, Being Human, Deadwood, and the Inbertweeners to the list amongst others

I grew up in the 90s so obviously am biased, but I loved the tv at the time - Fresh Prince (Bel Air is also very good tbf) for instance, all those sitcoms. I guess when you're in school those shows resonate more.

Modern TV is also pretty good, well the decade 2000-2010, not so familiar with shows now.
