1989: The Abyss vs Leviathan vs DeepStar Six

The Abyss.

Although I remember when I was a kid and saw it in the theatre being really disappointed when the ship surfaces and looked like a cheap plastic soap dish.

And I can't remember but I could've sworn when I saw it originally, they didn't include that part where the aliens show Bud that montage of Hitler and Hiroshima etc.
 
I enjoyed Abyss. I think it still stands pretty well today. Wouldn't mind seeing a modern re - make of it.
 
All forgettable movies. Saw them all when they came out, none worth watching again.
 
Abyss got all the love, state of the art Special effects and all, but I really enjoyed Leviathan.
 
Abyss is a pretty good movie actually. Don't really care for the director's cut ending. Never seen Leviathan. Haven't seen Deep Star 6 in probably 20 years, but it used to scare the fuck out of me, the scene where the guy in the deep sea suit gets bitten in half and they bring him out of the water sans legs. Traumatizing as a kid.
 
Abyss is a legit good movie IMO. The responses in this thread make me want to see Leviathan though. I was three in '86.
 
never heard of deepsea six before this thread. As a kid, i loved leviathan. I probably watched that 20 times. Im sure i would think it sucks now though. It had some legit scary stuff. the part where they surface and a shark attacks them was laughable though. Abyss has the best replay value though, i can still really enjoy that movie as an adult. I truly felt the chemistry between the elizabeth master anotonio and neal harris as the divorced couple.

Fuck I love leviathan. Even if Robocop was the main character.

Had a good spooky "infection" theme. Intentionally Sunken Russian science sub discovered.
 
I really liked Leviathan when I was little but I haven't seen it or abyss in 20 years. Never saw deepstar.

Its funny how Hollywood releases similar movies within a small timeframe.

Saving Private Ryan & Thin Red Line

Both of the 'Attack on the White House' movies last year.

Both Hercules movies this year.

Saw and Hostel.

I ALWAYS get Red Planet and Mission to Mars mixed up, good call, feels prescient.
 
The abyss by far. though as a kid i liked all 3 if i watched all 3 now i'd probably think different
