What the hell....
The Abyss was the only one that didn't really suck. Leviathan was a bit better than DeepStar Six. But DeepStar Six was terrible. All in 1989. There were some other even smaller budget water/alien/monster films (The Evil Below....and others).

I think I heard that Cameron (The Abyss) was mentioning he was going to do a water-aliens type movie.
Other studios heard this and thought it was going to be pretty much "'Aliens' in the Water".
So they started churning out their scripts and movies. All pretty much the same.... nasty looking monsters tearing apart seamen ( )

But Cameron's comes out and is nothing like that at all. His is the only one with any success. The others flop.

LOL... interesting thread Paul. I was at the age where I thought all of these were cool. I even liked Deep Star 6. Think i was 15 or 16 at the time. Not a good sense of judgement of quality film. Though... the Evil Below is pushin it.. even for me at that age.

Same here.
At the time, I loved them all. Actually, I liked Leviathan and DeepStar 6. Abyss had me like, "Hey.... where's all of the butchering?!"

The scene in DeepStar 6 where they're pulling that guy in the suit up and his body gets bit in half..... fun stuff.

I mean... how can you go wrong casting BJ Mckay as the lead..

i actually enjoyed all of em. haven't seen deep star 6 or leviathan in years though.

That deep star six monster looks so stupid in your pic. Looking back.. all of these type movies from this era were pretty great up to a point... suspense builds.. people get eaten one by one without actually showing you the monster... then right at the end.. they show it and its a big letdown. Looks really stupid haha.

who was the blonde girl in leviathan? always like her.

Her?: Lisa Eilbacher. I liked her in Beverly Hills Cop too.

I think it was his co-star that carried the television series. But yeah, The Abyss is a great fuckin' movie and the other two were more the cheesy kind you laugh at.

Great point.
I referenced movies like DeepStar 6 when arguing with friends about them not showing the Blair Witch.

There's almost nothing you can show a person that will trump the crap they'll conjure up in their head when they can't see exactly what it is.

Abyss is the clear winner, but Deep Star Six had a few good moments - all of them were Miguel Ferrer's onscreen time.

"F*ck it".

I love Abyss. I watch it every time it's on. Ed Harris, ftw.
