87 by a mile. Grunge was dreary, depressing shit. Suicide music. Worst era of music in history. Appetite for Destruction alone is better than anything on the 91list and it ain't close.
90's music was just awful.

1991 but I'm biased because I was a tween at that time and grunge/90s is still my favorite genre.

But inxs Kick is a top ten favorite album all time for me and Appetite for Destruction is too or at least close to top ten. Tango in the Night is an amazing album too

Well, with acts like Kravitz, REM, Guns n Roses, etc. it can be undoubtedly '91.
'87 saw too many wimpy acts: one-night acts :):)

Yeah, I was going to say that the 87 list isn't particularly strong, but it has Tango in the Night, Kick, and Faith.

I'd say 1991

It was a classic year for metal too

Death - Human
Gorguts - Considered Dead
Immolation - Dawn of Possession
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Bolt Thrower - War Master
Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick
etc...
As a metalhead 91 92 were great years for releases. Love bolt thrower!

Slow deep and hard from type o

What this thread made me realize is we are in a huge valley in the last 10 years music wise. Look at those albums in both choices...There is nothing like that now. We were so excited for new album releases sometimes waiting on lines at midnight. No one buys albums anymore. The biggest acts today are Taylor Swift and female rappers that rap about their dump truck asses and supposedly juicy vaginas. Rock is trying to make a comeback but no real star new bands yet. Country is popular but can be dull. Mainstream pop and rap are repetitive and derivative nonsense. MTV is dead for music and that really made the 80s and 90s special. A new video would drop, and people would go nuts. The MTV music awards showed all music, not just urban stuff. You could have Janet Jackson do a performance, followed by Bon Jovi on acoustic guitars. You had MTV Unplugged. Even LL Cool J did one. I think we are ready for something new, something that happened in the 80s and 90s...a movement, a feel and vibe. What is the feel or vibe right now?

Yup the golden age of music is over. I'd say it's the 80s and 90s was the golden age. Will never see the likes of it again imo.

One of the reasons I think is technology. Youth today prefer tik tok and video shorts to music. Times change, culture changes. My fingers are crossed some wave of music where talented people play instruments will make some sort of resurgence.

I hope so to. I would love to be proven wrong.

Unfortunately, you may be right :)....but then again, every age and art has had its renaissance , no ??! :)

Yes. I was speaking to a guy today who said his kids and all their friends in class said they wanted to be "influencers" and tik tok stars when they grow up. Not one rock star. Who knows....If this is what the youth want, that is what the world will cater to.

No worries ! Of course this will the future of generations to come....but what's the problem ? Rock will go underground again, be used by a select few for a select few and musical fermentation will occur again - just like in the 1960s - and frankly speaking (I won't be around to witness this of course) - that is how it should be coz the best in rock came out from the woodwork in this exact way ....certainly, it will be quite different from the result of the 60s, but it's undoubtedly history repeating :):)....don't worry be happy.

1987 easily, can't think of an album from 1991 that's as great as Sign O'The Times.

There's still plenty of good stuff being made it's just not on the radio and maybe I'm too old to get the stuff that is on the radio
