This is inspired by posters like @The Good The Bad The HBK and @MXZT. Plus I was born in the (early) 1980s but remember the 1990s better because I was a teen in the '90s, so I figured this would be fun. I'm using Rolling Stone readers polls as the source and listing what were voted as the top 25 films for both decades. Not necessarily my personal choices but pretty comprehensive.

I love it. Because the NY mob story had been told so many times, as great as Goodfellas is. The Vegas mob story and the Teamsters and the casinos, it hadn't really been done, especially not like that.

Based on all movies probably still the 80s

But i'm biased af as italian tv for this holidays is playing tons of 80s stuff and just feels good

Specially fantasy stuff close to xmas period, in just few days i seen Conan 1 and 2, Willow, Princess Bride, Excalibur, The Black Cauldron and Ladyhawke


Btw 90s and 00s were still cool for movies, entertainment had a good run

Went 90s. It has so many great films in every genre. The decade is maybe so oversaturated with great content that it hurts it because some great films get swallowed up amongst everything else.

100% subjective, but I love Boogie Nights and Clerks. I like The Fugitive and haven't even seen The Lion King yet. I basically lived at the video store in the '90s. Feature films, independent films, UFC, documentaries, etc. Good times.

100% agree. LOTS of films I love that aren't on the list for the '90s. Casino didn't even make their top 25. I'll try to make a list tomorrow...

Some great ones not on the list: Truman show, tombstone, austin powers, dark city, jerry maguire, gattaca, the talented mr. Ripley, total recall, terminator 2, something about Mary, the game, being john Malchovich, barton fink, misery, diggstown, goldeneye, in the line of fire, enemy of the state, the mask, batman returns, men in black, 12 monkeys, the fugitive, face off, carlitos way, demolition man, jingle all the way, lion king etc etc

Its a great movie. Also it reminds me of The Rock which is another great movie. Also Con Air. Bringing out the dead. 8mm

The 90s was straight up better, even though I love the 80s. 1994 and 1999 were all time great movie years. Comedies and Animated movies in the 90s were way better. 80s did have good fantasy/Sci-fi and coming of age stuff. However that Rolling Stone list of best 80s movies has some weird ass picks. No Terminator, Last Crusade, Aliens, Predator, The Thing, and ET but UHF, Repo Man?, Lost Boys, and St Elmo's Fire? Weird boner for obscure Emilio Estévez movies.

I haven't seen every film from either list but I counted each film I've seen and genuinely enjoyed on both sides and it came out a tie.

Holy shit this is hard. I don’t know. Too many great ones in both but admittedly mostly nostalgia for the 80s. The 90s films listed are arguably better. I just don’t know.
