Insanely awesome card.

I remember thinking Fedor needed to lose about 3 in a row just to be not considered the number 1 HW anymore, but some sites were happy to drop him off their top 10 altogether when it finally happened.

Agreed that UFC having a stranglehold on the sport is fucking terrible.

Cards were great, but they were running themselves into the ground. Even if the Barnett fiasco didn’t happen, I don’t think Affliction was lasting much longer.

I was there and it was fucking amazing. My wife asked if I wanted to go to a UFC card in Vancouver (we lived in Washington at the time) and I said “If we were going to spend that kind of money, I’d want to go to something like the Affliction card”

She told me to book the tickets…talk about a keeper.

yeah I never understood it. Hindsight it’s easy to say, but Timmeh was an easy match up for Fedor. I thought as much at the time.

I was always more intrigued by Randy vs Fedor in a cage.

I used to get so excited about these stacked cards back in the day. ufc has turned into netflix, just pump out content and use the brand name

Wall n stall seemed like it could be effective in getting the fight to go long.

Fedor had a ton of finishes, but they were mostly in the first five minutes. I can’t think of many that happened after that. (Rogers and Hunt) If he didn’t finish early it often went the distance. He cenrtainly didn’t have many (any?) finishes after ten minutes. If Randy could’ve survived a round I would’ve been interested in seeing it.

How time flies... 15 years ago today we were treated to a STACKED card headlined by former UFC HW champion Timmmmehhh Sylvia vs former Pride HW Champion Fedor Emelianenko. Fedor made quick work of poor Timmeh and further cemented his status as the GOAT.

The main event received much of the attention, but the whole card was STACKED top to bottom. See below copy and paste job from wikipedia.

I can't believe how fast time flies. I still wish we got to see Fedor vs Barnett as planned.

On another note, also on this date 15 years ago was a UFC event put on to fuck with the ratings of Affliction - UFC Fight night Silva vs Irvin - which saw another GOAT make quick work of his opponent in the main event. - This card also was stacked, but we didn't know it at the time having future stars Rumble, Cain, and Frankie Edgar.



Those days sure were fun to be an MMA fan. Crazy so many legends all fought on the same night! Cheers guys!
