Amateur wrestlers have much better wrestling than a LOT of pro boxers, its almost worrying how terrible most pro boxers are at wrestling.

Amateur boxers don't need to wrestle.

UFC fighters need to know how to strike.

The gifs I will post below, feature 2 "elite" MMA strikers. This is what happened when they chose to exchange punches with decent amateur boxers.

What are you boxing fans in an MMA forum doing here? Go to a boxing forum

Honestly I was expecting a lot worse, the non-UFC caliber MMA guy did pretty well in the first round. Didn't watch after that.

Here is a video of a 7-0 pro boxer vs an 18 year old.

Why would boxers train wrestling when there's no wrestling in boxing. Boxing is a part of MMA so try again.

Firstly your obvious statement is obvious, like saying amateur wrestlers would out wrestle a LOT of mma fighters.

Secondly being amateur doesn't entirely mean they're any less or more talented than a lot of pros, a lot of countries especially in Russia and South America have a lot of incentives to stay amateur.

The average serious amateur boxer has spent 5-6 days a week training boxing, with training regimes designed specifically for boxing. MMA boxing is a different kettle of fish compared to normal boxing, so getting out worked in a sparring session by a competing amateur boxer isn't some truth bomb shell.

There are hundreds of amateur boxers that have competed in mma, picking the two best examples you can find does not prove a point. Styles make fights.

And I'm not disputing the importance of boxing in MMA, just that it's obvious a boxer with a good mid range skill set will easily dispatch an mma fighter in a boxing exhibition.

A 15 year old amateur boxing champion is sparring with a UFC fighter who is a striker:

Hate sped up footage...
Anyway, it's not impossible for a 15 y o to have the same boxing skill or superior to that of an adult. It's entirely possible for that kid to have upwards of 6 years' worth of boxing training. Still, it wasn't an extremely dominant display, and if he were to kickbox against this fighter, he'd get destroyed badly. So, don't compare his boxing to that of an MMA fighter.

"15 year old box vs UFC fighter" I was expecting a UFC fighter to be pounding on an old moldy cardboard box.

I think Rothwell would slam the shit out of a cardboard box....and then he would fight it.

The mma guy looks to be about 40 pounds heavier than the kid. Seemed like they got some good rounds in though.

Totally embarrassing for mma, kinda proves boxing is the superior combat sport

In boxing it takes a whole lot of work to get to the top.

In MMA once he learns good TDD, he will be knocking shmucks like that out.

Boxing is not striking, people need to stop saying that. Boxing is boxing.

Then what is it, grappling?

Boxing is a huge component of striking. Not the only thing, but one of the most important parts.

Then word it differently, there is a ton more to striking than just boxing.

9000. The number of times the "UFC fighter" adjusted his headgear. Ugh, that's annoying.

I was gonna lean towards the box winning - but needed to know what kind of box.
Maybe a Lemon Heads box would be too small - unless against a WMMA fighter.
Bigfoot vs a Big box... BB by KO.

I thought the UFC guy wouldve won if that was an actual match

Now that the fight has been signed, this is more interesting to watch.
