Gorilla.

Animals, even apes, have a higher pain threshold and their switch flips and stays flipped even if feeling pain. The strongmen would get body parts ripped off, the ones who didn't would get the 'fight or flight' and scale the cage and run.

well there it is indeed. A random site on the interwebz made the arbitrary claim a gorilla is 20x stronger than a man, with zero evidence to support the claim. Clearly better source than the other random sites that claim 8-15x stronger, also with zero evidence.

Honestly, the strongmen can focus on its head, they can surround it and attack from behind. They would take losses, but any living thing will get hurt badly as a result of head trauma, not to mention eye gouges etc.

I could be completely wrong here, and maybe gorilla skulls are very thick and impervious to the forces that humans can create, but it seems logical that the strongmen could grind out a difficult victory.

A Gorilla's bones, including it's skull, are much stronger than a human's.

If all the Strongmen are committed to winning, down to the last man standing, they might grind out a win. But they will take massive losses doing so. And I wouldn't bet my money on them.

I doubt the 12 strong men could hurt the gorilla, but gorillas don't seem to have much of a mean streak. Most of their charges are bluffs. The only attacks I recall hearing about involve single bites. If they had the aggression of a chimp the 12 strongmen would be ripped apart.

They probably could. But the argument doesn't hold quite as much weight as people using it think it does, imo.
They refer to people having had their faces completely rearranged by angry chimpanzees and so on; Well, give Zydrunas Savickas free reign to pound and stomp your face for half a minute, and then look yourself in the mirror. The result would have remarkable similarities.

by punching a rampaging gorilla? not a chance. The gorilla might suffer a few rabbit punches as he bersekered his way through the humans but even strongmen just do not have the physical tools to render any damage to such a massive, strong opponent.

Meh. I don't think a gorilla is impervious to damage, just because it has a higher pain threshold or knows not to show it. Not saying a human being could break gorilla bones or anything, but it can punch or kick hard enough to cause internal bleeding. Enough damage like that and the gorilla will eventually be seriously hurt and immobilized. Not to mention it might work itself to the point of complete exhaustion or beyond, which I'm kind of banking on in this scenario. We are talking 12 individuals fighting the gorilla, and I don't think the gorilla will exactly go about demolishing them one by one in a calm, energy-efficient and systematic fashion. I don't think team strongman will get many good shots in while the gorilla is a whirling tornado of furry destruction. But it is another matter when it is a gassed out fleabag lying spent on the ground. So what I really want to know is how good a male gorilla's cardio is.
