During Mendes vs McGregor, McGregor used several 12-6 elbows from his back. Mendes complains repeatedly and Herb says it's legit.

Are 12-6 elbows only illegal when landed from inside someone's guard?

What matters is the actual direction of the move.
12-to-6 elbows are only illegal if they're ceiling-to-floor.
Side to side is legal.

12-6? Why are you worrying about what time it is? It is McGregor's time. It is the McGregor era!

Conor bless.

This topic has been thrown around from time to time. It has always seemed to me that the 12-6 rule is based on ref's discretion. Usually the warnings are only dished-out when they are being thrown from top control in a downward fashion.

there is no such thing as a 12-6 elbow from the bottom

it's a 6-12 elbow (do you know how a fucking clock works, ts?), which of course the rules say nothing about being illegal

I wondered about this as well. Perhaps they're considered 6-12 elbows if they come from the bottom?

From the way they were being shown on the TV, they were 9-3 elbows. Rules do not prevent 'em!

Look at the clock face. Conor was clearly throwing them from 9 to 3. The clock face does not rotate if you are on your back. No matter what your orientation is 12 to 6 is ALWAYS ceiling to floor...

no it's not...where do you come up with this stupid shit. 12 to 6 is defined as ceiling to floor, completely vertical. It's NOT the refs discretion.

I think it's usually legal depending on what time zone you're in.

They were 9 to 3 from the bottom. Way less dangerous than 12 to 6 from top control.

Geometry and mechanics - Do you understand it? It is physically impossible to perform a 12-6 from your back.

It's not 12 to 6 if they're on their back. Use your brain. When have you ever seen a clock?

The 12 is at the top, the 6 is at the bottom. If fighter A is one their back and making the same motion that would be considered 12 to 6 if upright, then that motion is not 3 to 9, or 9 to 3.

The clock doesn't rotate, it is always upright, facing you.

I'm baffled that you fucking retards don't understand this concept. Have you looked at a clock ever?

I think it's technically front of the clock to back of the clock. Such a weirdly defined rule.
