Media 11 years ago, George St-pierre defeated Nick Diaz in a highly anticipated fight.

Super undeserved title shot. This was not highly anticipated by me and was clearly written on the wall. This was after Carlos Condit beat Nick and Nick complained about the fight. This was Nick Diaz third fight upon his return. Looked great against BJ, looked horrible against Carlos and was gifted title shot he didn't deserve, complained during the lead up, complained after losing.

Yeah I don't think I've ever seen so much whining from a fighter about nothing, really. Maybe Tony Ferguson comes close.

This was where GSP told us about the dark place in his head. Nick really got under his skin. “Ee is de most dizrespekful yooman being I ever met.”

"Listen to me you uneducated FOOOL"

Nick sounded like he was close to tears after GSP said that.

Crazy...11 years ago already, i remember back then it made a big hype and was highly anticipated in Montreal, since Nick Diaz was the Strikeforce champion back then if i remember correctly.

I had a threesome that night

Nick hard good moments on the feet in the 3rd round and stuffed GSP more than any other fighters. Gsp finished 9/16 in takedowns.
But yeah a snoozer lol.

At least Nick Diaz had the balls to fight Anderson Silva. Thats about he only real props I can give him.

Nick was not the Strikeforce champion. He was the last champion but lost to Carlos Condit before facing GSP. I was at the fight live and was at UFC 154 for GSP vs Condit as well. It was awesome both times.

TS trying to sell us wolf tickets.

Title shot was definitely undeserved, but there was enough hype to make money off of it. GSP basically cherry picked this fight because he knew he would dominate and make good $$.
Nick was strikeforce champ and should’ve beaten Condit. He deserved a TS especially when GSP cleaned out the division

Only after the first 2 rounds of GSP taking Nick down and controlling him on the ground, the threat of the takedown always does that against strikers.

Nick did have one moment in the fight on the feet, that shook George, making him go back to to his coveted ground game.

nick Hurt gsp in the most memorable moment in the fight and started stuffing gsp takedowns.

One of the few fights where Nick didn’t have a scratch on him

Nick was the Strikeforce champ but he had already lost to Condit before this fight

When Nick was in Strikeforce, I made a thread about how he would get dog walked by BJ and was resurrected after the fight. Condit was scheduled to fight BJ and Nick stepped in his place. UFC wanted Nick vs. GSP, but GSP got injured. Condit and Nick was for the interim title. Carlos Ruined their plans. UFC still wanted to get something out of Nick's name and gave him the much undeserved title fight. Not looking, but I believe the buy rate was over 700K, I just remember Nick stating GSP was an athlete and not a fighter and he couldn't believe that lady in Lodi told him GSP would win lol.
Yeah that whole thing was a weird deal. Iirc Nick was scheduled to fight GSP for the title in his first fight back off his success in Strikeforce and Condit was scheduled to fight BJ on the same card. Then Nick blew off a press event or something and pissed Dana off so he flipped the card around and had Condit scheduled to headline against GSP with Nick and BJ in the co-main. Then GSP got injured so they took Condit off the card entirely and just had Nick and BJ headline. After beating Penn impressively and with GSP injured they booked Diaz vs Condit for the interim. So the card went from

GSP vs Diaz
Penn vs Condit
To
GSP vs Condit
Penn vs Diaz
To
Penn vs Diaz

Very weird deal.

I remember GSP found Nick awkward to deal with on the ground. Not enough to be in trouble, but enough he couldn't land much.

I remember Nick stopped 7 out of 12 takedowns in the last three rounds, which was pretty good for facing GSP (better than Condit or Alves). But he was mostly just defending, from what I remember (been 11 years! And I was much less aware of what I was watching at the time).

GSP knew Nick was robbed, sucks he never went and petitioned to get the match overturned

For the amount of build up and potential it had
It definitely did not deliver
Nick just turtled the whole fight. Like a lot of gap defenses his opponent was just happy to be in here with the goat and survive.

They just took he moral victory and didn't even try to win, then people would blame gsp for the fights being boring.
