1 - 5 and headlining a UFC card

Gastelum has won 1 of his past 6 fights, and lost his past 2 fights. This losing streak is not that uncommon, the fact that he is headlining an UFC card, is unprecedented. No other fighter has headlined a card with a streak like this. He has won 3 of his past 10 fights. Name recognition, Mexican fan base, exciting style, Sherdogish hairline....why???

Silva was on a 2 fight loosing streak when he headlined against hall and was going 1-6-1nc in his last 8

@steeldragon Yep. Was just coming here to say the same. Silva had only won 1 of his last 8 fights before Main Eventing a fight night w/ Uriah Hall. He also had only won 1 out of his last 6 fights before headlining against Israel Adesanya at UFC 234, though that was because Whittaker had to pull out and his title fight with Gastelum was cancelled.

He's always a good scrap and almost knocked Izzy out when Izzy was looking untouchable. He wouldn't be the worst headliner by a long shot if you've been paying attention to some of the cards this past year

If I had to watch a pitter patter WMMA headliner or Gastelum, I'd choose Gastelum and it wouldn't matter if the WMMA girl was on a 3 decision streak.

One great fight against Izzy.
Downhill since.
He actually had Izzy reeling, and went for the freakin' takedown...
Hey, he should ride that notoriety as long as he can. Without that fight, he's out of the UFC.

Having the right manager can get you spots you don’t deserve, and keep you around well past your Expiration Date.

my theory: they are building him up for shara bullets intro fight. (if he's truly fighting at MW)

Dana White: "Kevin Gastelum is a stud, okay, he gave adesanya the second hardest fight he ever had. This shara kid is ready for top 5".

Only that ankle lock performance was weak. Besides thst he stood his ground and was competitive vs all the best fighters. It's not just loss win. He's still worthy of a top fight.

But somewhat lame main event.

He lost to Darren Till who's been shit on by everyone else. There's no potential. Stop dreaming
Potential is there, or was, but deff not at MW, he doesnt like to diet, its his career and prime years he is wasting.

Gastelum is there to put the old guys out of their misery, to send them off into retirement. That's why he still has a steady job in the UFC.

Well … Rockhold wants to come back apparently. Kelvin will probably lose, so book Gastelum vs Rockhold next. I’m being dead serious.

Gastelum puts asses on the seat.. the guys fights are fights and exciting...

He should headline every card he's on for that ko

UFC doesn’t care. They just need a name to hide all the bum nobodies they keep rolling out to fill shitty cards.

It's not a numbered event and Gastelum has fought the absolute top in most of those fights.

Nothing to see here. Dumb thread.

Kanehara fought Wanderlei in Pride Fc and he did ok

When Gastleum is on he's such a treat. Sure he Molly whopped some past their prime like Kennedy and Belfort, but his fight with Izzy is one of my favorites. I just feel he may have left something in there

He's the fighter I'd be most interested to watch on the card. I love Shavkat but he lacks the name and the opponent

He shouldn't really no. He has good name recognition and usually brings it. Decent Co - Main at best.

Not only that but check out most of his wins at 185. He slays old men who are coming off of 1 or more finish losses. They should be promoting the 16-0 guy that has looked super impressive in his 4 UFC fights so far. Gastelum vs 12-3 Imavov should not be a main event.
