I'm not surprised. And while it seems like this is bad news now, it will be worse when these young people get older. Anyone who's happy about this isn't thinking very far into the future.
What confuses me is:
1) People are surprised by this, I mean young people have been leaning into extremism for 4-5 years now, I thought it was obvious.
2) People attributing this solely on indoctrination. I don't think, with left-wing messaging saturating political commentary and entertainment, that you can put the blame solely or even primarily on right-wing indoctrination. Now obviously the Trump camp is happy about this but young people turning right is more of a repudiation of the extreme left than it is a successful brainwashing of right-wing ideology.
Sam Harris has been warning people about this since the 2016 election.
