In the mainstream it's been toned down. There are still some indies out there that have their performers nearly kill themselves for $25 bucks, though.

I don't think it was ever as crazy as it was in the 90's though. It's quite the miracle that Mick Foley is alive today.

The Japanese are to be blamed for these type of matches. Spilled over to America eventually.

first I would say in America you prolly have 10 million pro wrestling fans at best. That's a pretty small percentage to call it an American culture thing. Given the fact the the largest promotional organization has been shying away from blood for awhile now I don't even think we can call this sort of wrestling main stream wrestling culture.

New Jack has tried to kill/maim people in the ring many times. He's the most unprofessional pro-wrestler in history, and should be locked up. He is a legitimate lunatic. The stabbing incident happened, and was very real.

You've really never heard of ECW? They've been essentially out of business since early 2000's though WWE bought them and promoted a tamer version for a few years.

They invented the barbwire match and flaming tables match. And that jump from 20' through a table was a pretty regular occurrence.

Pro wrestling is tough on the lower circuits. Shitty pay and your opponents are more likely to make mistakes, whether it's on purpose or on accident. At least with MMA there are state commisions.
