WTF is going on with police in Minnesota?

I feel bad for those dogs, they looked harmless.

First they shoot the guy in his car after he tells the officer he has a gun. Then they shoot the Australian tourist. They shot these registered service dogs a while ago. Are they hiring people who are afraid of their own shadow? The Black Female Police Chief has resigned.

Was this another Somali diversity hire?

From Muslim #5248

Maimuna reported that one morning Allah’s Messenger was silent with grief. Maimuna said: Allah’s Messenger, I find a change in your mood today. Allah’s Messenger said: Gabriel had promised me that he would meet me tonight, but he did not meet me. By Allah, he never broke his promises, and Allah’s Messenger spent the day in this sad mood. Then it occurred to him that there had been a puppy under their cot. He commanded and it was turned out. He then took some water in his hand and sprinkled it at that place. When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: You promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. Then on that very morning he commanded the killing of the dogs until he announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be killed, but he spared the dog meant for the protection of extensive fields or big gardens.

Why is it important to point out the Police Chiefs skin color here bud?

Not trying to be a dick, genuinely curious is all

How is it possible to not point out the cops race and the victims race? Has CNN taught us nothing. We have to know if we could be the parents of if we should have a hissyfit.

Also, what the fuck is up with pointing out the victim's species?????

Don't be a dog around a police officer, apparently. I have no issue with a police officer shooting a dog that lunges or quickly approaches them, even if they aren't aggressive, because the officer doesn't know that.

But you know, when you go into someone's property, and they have a dog, dogs are curious animals and want to see you. He said they growled but who knows really, the audio was conveniently muted until after he fired.

Literally every dog is like this so police really should learn how to with dogs, like half of America owns a pet. You can usually tell by their behavior if they are going to attack.

The funny thing is that the police chief of Finnish "National Bureau of Investigation", gave a big speech and lauded Minneapolis's program of hiring police officers from a "diverse background" in order to combat minority crime, a couple of years back. He used this as justification of Finland running a similar program.

It seems that the hiring of incompetents, purely to satisfy a diversity quota, wasn't a great idea after all.

The problem isn't with police, in general, in Minnesota. It's with the Minneapolis and other departments in the cities. The vast majority of departments in the state have rates of use of force complaints much lower than the national average. Those departments require a POST license in order to be an officer. This means a four year degree from a law enforcement program at Minnesota State or another program like at Bemidji State, which is basically a four year long police academy. So in my tiny town in southern MN all of our police officers and sheriff's deputies have four year degrees from a state school. Minneapolis and one or two other departments only require a GED and graduation from their own police academy. So they have fewer requirements and less training than the rest of the state. In addition Minneapolis has had some high profile gang shootings downtown the past year or so and the department has been heavily criticized for not being aggressive, so a lot of officers are overcompensating now. It's not right, but it's the truth. The media has been brutal in their criticism of the department as being too soft on crime lately, and this is the end result.

If you're correct this adds much needed context and should be a lesson to the rest of the nation (Even if it is common sense to keep high standards for that job)

I should have said mixed race but it appears they may be hiring for diversity ahead of qualifications. I don't know if a police chief has much effect in any case. The officers involved in the shootings seem to be minorities.

Well I haven't heard it as fact, just people's opinions, so take it for what it's worth, but I've heard the MPD doesn't require POST because they weren't diverse enough. Hence hiring out of high school and doing their own academy.

People in Minnesota are some of the nicest people you will meet. It's difficult to let someone into a line ahead of you because it becomes a "you go first, no you go first". The roads will have some assholes but most are pretty courteous. The minority areas are worse with gangs. The police I've had contact with there seemed very calm. We took a wrong turn and and saw a police car and asked for directions. Now it probably isn't the best thing to stop alongside a police car in a bad part of town. We were advised that this wasn't a good part of town to be in and they escorted us in the proper direction.

If a person goes to the full program it would be much better to go to a smaller city where there isn't much crime and the cost and quality of life is much better. I suspect that's another reason Minneapolis would have it's own program.

That's a tough one. It makes sense that a black (for example) person may be able to relate better to black suspects (even though everyone is equal).

However, we can't forget how much affirmative action used to exist. My cousin's Michigan, in the 90's, required different test scores to get into college than their black classmates. The requirement scores were even lower for inner-city (Detroit) schools.

Let's not forget the quotas, certain amount of black firemen, policemen, teachers, etc required. The same goes for women. I remember when I worked at for motor company in 2001, I was told that my next hire had to be a female.

Bearing this in mind, when I see a minority, especially a female minority in a position of power, I can't help but wonder if that person was the most qualified for the job or if they got it because of their race and/or genitalia.

I just feel that when race gets thrown into the conversation without playing an actual role in what needs to be discussed, we're all just playing into 'their' hands in focusing on all the wrong shit.

Politicians need us to care about shit like race so we're less focused on how they're actually fucking all of us.

Well, I would hope that by natural development, people of all colors would find themselves to those positions, without having to be there only to make people of similar skin color feel comfortable.

I mean, that's pretty much the same argument that was used to make white folk feel comfortable in the days when only white men would be hired for public services.

Allowing people to develop a racial consciousness about such matters, can have dire consequences. It kills the idea of a competitive "meritocracy" where the best men are hired for the most suitable jobs.

Only the democrats are playing the race game though.
