WTF is going on with police in Minnesota?

Seems like they just need a reason to use that gun.

They need to shoot something.

Was this another Somali diversity hire?

From Muslim #5248

Maimuna reported that one morning Allah’s Messenger was silent with grief. Maimuna said: Allah’s Messenger, I find a change in your mood today. Allah’s Messenger said: Gabriel had promised me that he would meet me tonight, but he did not meet me. By Allah, he never broke his promises, and Allah’s Messenger spent the day in this sad mood. Then it occurred to him that there had been a puppy under their cot. He commanded and it was turned out. He then took some water in his hand and sprinkled it at that place. When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: You promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. Then on that very morning he commanded the killing of the dogs until he announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be killed, but he spared the dog meant for the protection of extensive fields or big gardens.

Any religion that advocates the killing of dogs should be wiped from the face of the earth.

I don't know if black people get along better with black police officers. I've heard black people say they would rather have a white boss because they can feel that they aren't the boss because they are black. Just like white men feel that they didn't get a job because it had to go to minorities or women.

People in Minnesota are some of the nicest people you will meet. It's difficult to let someone into a line ahead of you because it becomes a "you go first, no you go first". The roads will have some assholes but most are pretty courteous. The minority areas are worse with gangs. The police I've had contact with there seemed very calm. We took a wrong turn and and saw a police car and asked for directions. Now it probably isn't the best thing to stop alongside a police car in a bad part of town. We were advised that this wasn't a good part of town to be in and they escorted us in the proper direction.
Oh absolutely. Minnesota is, in my opinion, hands down the best state to live in. The taxes are entirely too high, and it gets a little too liberal politically sometimes, but all the folks you meet are really nice and we have that old school Scandinavian mentality that rewards hard work and dedication. I hate to see a couple of bad incidents change people's perceptions of our great state.

It is almost the same here in Oklahoma:

Here is what the police are thought - by the numbers: Pepper Spray, Baton, Taser, Gun.
When shooting your gun: a) Shoot to wound - b) Shoot to kill.

Here is what the police does: Shoot to kill.

Forget about all the other steps, they are too hard, plus I have warm coffee and donuts waiting in the car. Don't want the coffee to get cold!

Just like white men feel that they didn't get a job because it had to go to minorities or women.

It is called 'Reverse Discrimination' and 'Minority Quotas in the Workplace'.

1984 - "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." George Orwell

One day I would like to travel and visit the U.S. Hockey hall of fame in Eleveth. Other than that MN as a state really doesn't hold significance to me.

The Alexandria area of MN is fucking beautiful. I've only been there in the summer time, I'd love to see it in the fall. I'm hoping to get down to Paynesville by winter.

Most of Minnesota is pretty fucking beautiful if you have spent anytime outside of the state. The Twin Cities is one of the best kept secrets in the U.S. Very high standard of living, very clean, good schools, and only small pockets of crime. My wife was blown away that we were able to walk from the U to downtown Minneapolis in the middle of the night and not be worried about being mugged.

Are you a graduate of Paynesville?

I'm from ND. I prefer my own state, but the wooded areas of Minnesota are beautiful. I drove from Minneapolis to Alexandria on back roads, it took 7 hours, and it was beautiful. We stopped at little gas stations to ask for sight seeing recommendations or scenic roads and none of the suggestions disappointed. We got the good finger from other drivers, got stuck behind a couple tractors, we ate at a small town diner, etc. it felt like ND, but there were trees.
I have car parts down there I need to pickup.
Plus Minnesota has my favorite rest stop

Just asking because I grew up in Paynesville and it is very odd for someone to mention a town of 2200. I suppose you just happened to stumble on it because it is at the intersection of 23 and 55.

Looking back, Minnesota is very nice and crime free. I think people would think more of it if the winters weren't so rough. People are very nice in a "I'll help you change your tire and give you the shirt on my back but lets not move too fast. I am not ready to invite you to my place for Thanksgiving" sort of way. That has its pros and cons. If you like people to be respectful of your space while still being very cordial, it is great. If you get frustrated about how long it takes to make close friends, it is horrible. I miss the winters and the personal space and the quietness of the outdoors. When I retire, I am getting the hell out of Houston and moving north. Man wasn't meant to live in a concrete jungle.

The problem isn't with police, in general, in Minnesota. It's with the Minneapolis and other departments in the cities. The vast majority of departments in the state have rates of use of force complaints much lower than the national average. Those departments require a POST license in order to be an officer. This means a four year degree from a law enforcement program at Minnesota State or another program like at Bemidji State, which is basically a four year long police academy. So in my tiny town in southern MN all of our police officers and sheriff's deputies have four year degrees from a state school. Minneapolis and one or two other departments only require a GED and graduation from their own police academy. So they have fewer requirements and less training than the rest of the state. In addition Minneapolis has had some high profile gang shootings downtown the past year or so and the department has been heavily criticized for not being aggressive, so a lot of officers are overcompensating now. It's not right, but it's the truth. The media has been brutal in their criticism of the department as being too soft on crime lately, and this is the end result.

Good post

Overcompensating? Shoot first and ask questions later concept? That's how the poor woman got shot. Maybe they should go back to 'not being aggressive' and 'soft on crime'. The media will criticize them either way. Why should the police care about the media, are they involved in a popularity contest? Christ, just do your job like the majority of good descent cops in this country. It is not that difficult, unless you are an idiot.

Well it's because those shootings have been happening outside the nice restaurants and bars downtown, in the more trendy areas. There's a lot of pressure from the media and public because you can't have bulletts flying around tourists and people going to clubs and five star restaurants. BLM has also been really critical because several young black males have been shot in gang shootings in north Minneapolis and they argue that the police, through a lack of stricter enforcement, are letting their youth die. Essentially arguing that the police are racist for not preventing gang members from killing each other. Like I said, it isn't right, but I can absolutely see why the city has been putting pressure on the police to get aggressive. For a major metropolis the Twin Cities has pretty low crime rates and the city is worried about becoming another Chicago or St. Louis. There just needs to be a better, more efficient way that hasn't been found yet for their department.

Let's all be retarded and attribute individual qualities broadly to a large group because that reasoning is always rock solid

I think the most recent police shooting can be chalked up to a language barrier.

The Somali immigrant officer had a passable command of the English language, but the victim's strong, Australian accent threw him off.

She came up to the patrol car window and said, "I'm the lady who called 911."

But the Somali thought she said, "I have a gun, prepare to die."

A tragic accident.
