Why hasn't there been another Mike Tyson?

because they are playing football or basketball. The NFL is chock full of 5'10" power balls built just like tyson with more power and speed and explosion

just one of many. Robert Turbin 5'10" 220, 4.44s 40 yard dash, 23x225 on bench. Considered a below average RB in the NFL. Imagine a dude like that with freak genetics had he been in the same training as tyson
One doesnt equal the other. There are a lot of amazing athletes that are pussies and wouldnt take being punched in the face or want to kill their opponents.

Yea but you're missing the point , all the 5'10 genetic freaks are playing football, so either way they are not boxing whether they are pussy or not. Wilder is a good example would have played college football or basketball if not for his family issues. Nothing more than a genetic freak who was average at basketball and football in division 1 terms. I.e there are much better athletes than him playing football

Look bro, I think I provided enough evidence, as to why there isnt another Tyson.. so just drop out of this discussion. No one wants another thread of yours, being an attempt at exposing people to the homosexual nature of collegiate sports and the UFC. Just stop man.

Or, there just arent many people like Tyson.

Running in a straight line doesnt mean you can move the way he did. Apples to oranges.

Nfl is not about running in a straight line, you have to have extreme levels of agility , explosion, hand eye coordination, strength, field vision, ability to read defenses and react within seconds, etc. any dude with the size and athleticism is playing football or basketball in 99% of the cases in the US. If they aren't it's because they aren't truly athletic and just have the looks

Please tell me more about the nfl. Ive never seen it.

Still arent a bunch of Tysons running around the nfl.

He could have a glass chin, football has no cardio element so who knows how that is and most importantly who knows if he or any other non boxer has any talent for boxing let alone talent on the level of someone like Tyson.

Even aside from that if he actually boxed his whole life he wouldn't have those stats he would probably be weaker and smaller. Additionally how can you say he islike Tyso n but with "more speed, explosiveness and power"? How do you even know that? Tyson might had been a ATG football talent just like any football player could have been a boxing talent if they had competed at that sport their whole lives. Most likely not but you don't know

Still missing the point . Every single US human with tysons size and athleticism is playing football today, period

Every single? A few will surely have fallen out of the net. A few troublemakers or guys from shitty backgrounds who either never got the chance to play football or who werent able to go the college route for various reason. Surely not many but more than 0. Mostly speaking about natural ability though whether they would be that big and athletic without high level training is another thing.

And as you said only US males.

Now you are getting crazy. The NFL and the NBA were just as big in the 80s.

  • --Michael Jordan was a shit baseball player

  • --What position in the NFL does a 5'10 220-225lb player play? Fullbacks are rarely used in the NFL. Maybe you put Tyson at middle linebacker. There were stories of NFL players saying that they could take Tyson b/c he wasn't that big

  • -Years ago, the Ultimate Fighter finale was between a football player that was a 1st rounder and a guy that barely made an NFL roster. Well, the first rounder lost. Some guys playing other sports may have been good at boxing or mma but we'll never know.

  • --Lyle Alzado, Mark Gastineau(sp?), Ed "Too Tall" Jones, etc

  • -Hell, I have fast hands but my time in the 40 sucks

The guy clearly is just in denial

No they fucking arent. Do you have any idea how few people actually play football?

What is interesting about Mile Tyson is his love for pigeons prior to boxing. I would not expect such aggression from someone who raised pigeons as a hobby. That’s how he got into his first fight, over a dead pigeon.

Cus D’Amato used to say: “Boxing is 25% physical and 75% mental.

At his best, Tyson combined speed and power. Often, he was right on the other man before the poor fellow quite knew what was happening, such as when he crushed Marvis Frazier in 30 seconds. It also helped that Tyson intimidated many of his opponents to the point that they were ready to be knocked out before a punch was thrown (Michael Spinks, Alex Stewart and Bruce Seldon in particular). When Tyson knocked out Spinks in 91 seconds in 1988 he truly looked unbeatable.

I was at MSG for the Spinks fight watching on the big screen. I remember being hoarse from screaming so much during that brief fight. We need to take into account though that Spinks was at his best at LHW and was at the end of his career by the time they fought. As you stated he was also pretty scared going into that fight.

Yes, but it used to be that guys would look to boxing as their way out of poverty, and nowadays other sports are the ones that have programs geared to young kids and pay their stars obscene amounts of money. Besides football is a rough sport. Their great players have championship heart.

Athleticism means just that. Teach those guys to fight from a young age and they will excel. The cream rises to the top no matter what sport they prefer.

Think of it more as filtering through all the NFL players and choosing the ones that excel at boxing. Be that 1% or 10% or whatever number it would turn out to be. Those are the Tyson level guys that go into other sports nowadays.

Not every athlete can be good at every kind of sport, especially not a combat sport. You won't get a Mike Tyson anyway without having someone brought up in the same circumstances and training environment as him. Even if you got his clone today he might grow up in a different place and setting, and emotionally not be able to connect with the demands of boxing, or even if he does, simply not get paired with the right coaches or people and thus fail to live up to his potential and just be another boxer who never achieves anything significant.
