Why couldnt Tom Cruise fly the plane in Mission Impossible? Wasnt he in Top Gun?

This reminds me of the delightful thread talking about funny things we did as a kid and someone said they used to think people died for real in movies except this is horseshit.

I thought it was Scientology or something. His motorcycle skills transferred but not the flying .
Also his negotiating skills sucked, did he not learn from Jerry Maguire?

He's a pilot. I think he owns an old fighter plane, like a P51 Mustang? That would be cool as hell. As for Cruise flying in the movie, he probably couldn't fit his ego inside the fucking plane.
