UFC fines Anderson Silva $50.000 for media-event no-show

Anderson is incredibly rich by this point. Maybe even the best paid fighter in the UFC. Not to mention his sponsorship deals. 50K ain't nothing. Besides, what is Dana going to do besides fine him? Could you imagine if he stripped him of the belt?

Besides, didn't Diaz get like 300k to show up to pressers for the Condit fight? There is still some time before 162. Anderson might want a little extra incentive.

This seems like a pretty basic marketing gimmick by the UFC. Once they figured out how Diaz didn't show up for his press conference and how much hype that generated than actually showing up and being interviewed they are employing this with Silva. In the coming weeks you will see how this skipping the conference will blow up to be something more and the UFC will advertise it hard.

Did they fine Diaz?

This seems to be different.

Diaz skipped out on a media event being hosted by the UFC (their press conference)

Silva skipped out on a media event being hosted by several major media outlets where he was set to appear

Diaz wasted the UFC's time which can be replaced or forgiven. Silva wasted the media outlet's who were trying to talk to him who don't have to cover the sport and are less easily forgiving as they don't have to forgive him

ouch...he can afford it though.

what im more interested in is what happened to this JBE character?

AS is a diva, some bad performances, ducking Sonnen, faking injuries, taking a 1 yeay off,not wanted to fight in Vegas, since the contract was for Brazil, dana wanted to strip him, never had a title-fight in his home country, GSP gets it every time

50,000 dolla u know,it's no much eh but it's ok.It's not the money but the hespecto.

$50k? Psssh that's nothing when you are making

That is the problem with some people. Anderson never in the past refused to promote a fight. I have been critical in the past of Silva's camp requesting Cung Le and not Weidman, but like i said before, there are always two sides of the story. Family emergencies or other situations arise all the time. People should reserve judgement. Anderson hated Chael more than he does Weidman, and he never skipped out on any commitment to promote the fight. Let's wait for the facts.

He had problems with the Silva/Sonnen II press conference

What if its a family emergency?

calm the fuck down and wait for some more facts to come out:rolleyes:

just because he has a home in LA doesnt mean he spends most of his time there.

Im sure he spends the majority of his time still in Brazil

Classic Anderson Silva and a big reason why he isn't respected as much as Fedor. He's a primadonna. Chael Sonnen helped his legacy big time by playing the bad guy.

It could be anything, but why would the UFC fine him over a reasonable explanation?

People tried to reach Silva and his camp. No one answered.

Even if Silva is unavailable, why isn't Soares available? His entire job is to represent Silva. If Silva can't talk, Soares is supposed to for him. Soares refused to do so.

I'm sure there's more details that need to come out, but if it was for a reasonable explanation Silva wouldn't have been fined, especially not for such a large sum, and there would be a statement as to why he couldn't fulfill his media obligations from his management or himself

Latest thing Silva's tweeted is a video of him training with his son in his gym in LA 8 hours ago. So he was in LA as of today and last minute left to go to Brazil out of nowhere and none of his camp or himself wants to talk about why and he got fined a substantial sum

You don't get fined for things outside of your control...
