Couture was past his prime, but skinny. Toney was fat, which is a significant detriment.

It's a shame Lomanchenko and Rigondeaux aren't closer in weight, that would be my dream match up out of currently active boxers.

i guess one thing to think about is how different it is to punch and defend with mma gloves. mma boxing is very different. say he fought rampage and they agreed to only box, there is no real way to tell how toney would have done. it seems so similar but can be entirely different it really depends on the boxer and how well they adapt to the change in glove size and how it effects their style. the cage also is a factor as opposed to the ring.

as a boxer you train very specifically to fight with large padded gloves in a square ring with different round time and fight pace.

the sports are so different. yes there is punching in both but the most efficient effective way to punch in mma is going to be different then it is in boxing and the more experienced the boxer the more ingrained specific habits are and sometimes because of this is takes longer for them to adapt. .
