No doubt, Jay. Ngannou looked awful after all the backing he got from the UFC, and Miocic didn't exactly do himself any favours either.

Billy Mak (Bilyal Makhov), make your damn UFC debut already if you still plan to. Let the bodies hit the floor!

Has there been any word about his plans since Rio? I thought the plan was for him to turn pro in MMA shortly after. HW is in such a pitiful state at the moment.

After he was upset in Rio he said he wanted to take 6 months to a year off to dedicate time to family and not training. If we take the full year then that's well over. I'm not sure if he'll ever try MMA at this point since he's technically been signed to the UFC since April 2015. That's going on 3 years now and he hasn't even made his debut yet. He was training MMA a couple years ago with K Dojo Warrior Tribe and since then I've just seen people asking about him. He's 30 years old so the sooner the better. The UFC's HW division is terrible though, I agree. I'd love to see a dedicated Makhov go to AKA and train full time with Cain, DC, Khabib, Rockhold et al and really make a run in the UFC. If he doesn't then it'll be one of the biggest letdowns (imo) in MMA history.

Speaking of HW’s I didn’t want to post on the main board because everyone over there is on Stipes nuts now, but if Brock does come back I think he’d take Stipe. Everyone talks about Stipes power but Hunt and Carwin were better sluggers and more powerful than Stipe and neither of them could take Lesnar down. Stipe isn’t a thick guy, I think Lesnar could potentially destroy him.

I know that shit can happen and anyone could beat anyone with the right punch at the right time but am I wrong to think that a healthy Lesnar should take Stipe?

Thickness is something consistently overlooked when people handicap fights.

Thanks. Doesn't seem too hopeful aside from the fact that he could probably half-ass it and still wait a few more years and still be very effective in the wasteland that is the HW division in MMA.

It's funny to watch the UFC fans fall for hype jobs that boxing fans recognize right away. I don't know if it is because the sport is not as old, or if it's because the fanbase is basically a grown up WWE fanbase, but they are so easily drawn to hype jobs.

Take a similarly physiqued boxer like Anthony Joshua. Look at how experienced and accomplished Anthony Joshua was before boxing fans fully bought into his hype, and contrast that with how quickly and easily UFC fans bought into Ngannou.

"He hits like a Ford Escort!" Lol! What the hell? Dana White actually went around saying that, as if it was a scientific measurement. Joe Rogan questioned during the broadcast if Ngannou was even a human being. Lol.

Yeah, he may be able to just half-ass it like you said after another few years and still cause the division some real problems due to its complete lack of depth.

For those of you that don't know who Jay & I are talking about - Makhov was signed to the UFC in 2015 but wanted to compete at the Rio Olympics (and did) and then planned to cross over to MMA. He had already started training over 2 years ago. He's 6'5 with a good reach (not sure how long) and has competed at the highest levels of international wrestling and had success in both international wrestling styles, Freestyle & Greco-Roman. Over the years he's done this at 264.5 pounds, 275.5 pounds & 286.5 pounds (120, 125 & 130 kilos). He's a lean 270'ish in shape when he cares to be. In Freestyle he's an Olympic medalist, 3x World Champion, Silver & Bronze World medalist and a European Champion. In Greco he's a 2x World Championships medalist and became the first wrestler in 43 years to medal in both Freestyle & Greco-Roman at the World Championships the same year (2015).

His mandible is huge, as is his head and traps, so I figure it's probably a safe bet that he can take a decent punch when we apply bro science. He can grow a great beard too. We'd like to see him make his debut ASAP to see what he can do in the UFC's Heavyweight division as he's now 30 years old. Yes, he's an "A-Level" athlete.

Presumably we have no idea about his standup game then?

Correct. There's some video on YouTube of him hitting the mitts and stuff but you can tell his striking is very rudimentary. Not sure if he'd be a fast learner at the standup game but the HW division's striking is horrible anyway. If he can take a punch and has decent power I see the other guys getting dolled & mauled if he gives MMA a go, particularly if he dedicates himself.

Do any of you degenerates play online poker? Every time I’ve gone all in today I’ve either been folded instantly or called by someone with a bullshit hand that decks me on the river. Some joker just called a pot raise pre flop on A5 off suit and then bets the pot, I call all on with suited A9 with 579 on the table and the next two cards are A5. Difference between a good days work and breaking even, fucker.

@Sunfish I used to, but on the low stakes tables the play is so loose that it’s hard to get anywhere, and on higher stakes tables my skills aren’t strong enough - lose, lose all round.

Did have some early success years ago playing very cautiously at around midnight on a Friday and Saturday night against the post pub crowd on the William Hill site, but a lot of other people seemed to have cottoned on to that.

I hadn’t played for a while but instead of the days when I could play poker for a day and have enough for a good weekend I’m now in profit but laying down hands where I know I’m probably ahead but am not prepared to waste my time against a maniac who may have a totally inappropriate hand for their situation. The live games round here are easy enough to get paid at but staying up until 5.30am in a casino isn’t a good way to show respect to your employer.

I seriously wonder about his corner as well. they must have been dispensing the worst advice ever.

I'm just really glad Machida won. He should retire now that he has a win. Anders is the kind of guy Machida would have chewed up and spat out in one round in the past. I think Machida is just too far gone at this point to be in the cage with anybody who has significant power. In terms of striking he was a little different from usual but not significantly: more leg kicks than usual, as well as the body kicks, punch flurries and clinch knees which are traditionally a big part of his game. The issue is his power is going away and his reflexes are slowing. Also, a guy who was stuffing Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson and other high level wrestlers should never be getting taken down by Eryk Anders.

Machida aught to retire. I hear he wants Bisping, which is fine I guess, since Bisping isn't much in the way of a puncher. But if Machida wants to keep fighting, it should be in Brazil against light punchers like Bisping or Jotko.
