That time Alan Belcher did the unthinkable

Wtf was Wanderlei showing at that point in his career that you'd pick him over Belcher?
WTF was Belcher doing apart from beating the overrated palhares

In which i broke down minute by minute how belcher would beat him and get him to quit

Belcher legs are so thick they are invulnerable to leg locks.

Or it helped a little.

Mystic UL called that too

Normally people are always on the Belcher bandwagon, but they all thought Palhares was going to win that fight (bandwagon jumpers)

was hilarious though how people thought Belcher would beat Vitor/Bisping/Wanderlei after that Palhares victory

he should be glad he never fought Wanderlei or Vitor.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, Belcher took another 20pts off palhares' IQ which pretty much cut it in half.

One of the biggest underachievers in the sport. I'm a fan of the guy, but his losses to akiyama, bisping and okami really hurt his stock. I expected him to maul bisping. It was all downhill from there
didn't Bisping pretty much poke his eyes out that night?

And he never recovered

No one wants to fight him because he is dirty as fuck

my point was more about Belcher than Palhares. specifically that he was unafraid to fight him, even though others were.

however, i will remind you that this was still 2012, and Palhares hadn't been kicked out of the UFC yet. some were aware he held on to holds too long, sure, but others simply didn't want to fight a gorilla strong leg lock specialist.

after Marquardt and Belcher, however, that mystique / fear dried up.

the fear of him holding holds too long lingers. and rightfully so.

Belcher was really good. I don't think many people, myself included, appreciated him while he was still fighting but he had several good fights even if he didnt always win.

On the juice or off?

Congrats dude? Why don't you break down how you think past his prime Wanderlei wins

And following that Bisping lost an eye to TRT Vitor and still won the belt

One eyed Bisping > one eyed Belcher

loved Belcher, explosive and powerful but always lacked that tightness

I feel like even the mid level guys had way more weight to their name than the guys of today. Too many. You can look at the top 10 of some divisions today and think "who????" whereas guys like Belcher even though they weren't title contenders you knew who they were.

Always figured AB would be champ one day. AB has a good life and I don't think his heart was in fighting as a full time, only career..

I was flexing and twisting myself all over my couch during that fight. I was just as tired as Alan when it was over

Yeah, that was bad ass to watch. He defended text-book, then wore Palhares down and smashed him.
And he did it effortlessly too. You can see people panic as soon as they fall in Palhares sand box. Belcher was in there cool as a cucumber and got to smashing.

I wish more ground fighting in mma looked like that.
