He only took another fight because he realized all the refusal didn't get him anywhere. He was getting nowhere close to the title shot sitting out, they'll just keep offering him top 5 top 10 fights. The only course of action he has is to keep taking fights to the point where they have to offer it to you ala Fitch. It will eventually happen if he keeps winning, but it takes longer for him because guess what, the UFC is a business. If you can't make the business money it doesn't matter how talented you are, you're not getting the promotion as fast.
