Training methods have changed. How to incorporate techniques into MMA has changed. A lot has "evolved" with the sport of MMA, so while "fighting is fighting", this is MMA and yes, it has changed.

mma/boxing doesnt envolve like swimming and other stuff, but yeah ... the support to back then is like day and night, but doesnt change the fact, that a skilled guy from back then, could be today as good as the others or even much better.

if you compare boxing (ali/holyfield/tyson) today HW boxers are bigger/stronger (it depends) and maybe a little faster, but i doubt that. technically they suck.

the support has "envolved" but doesnt change the fact, that a guy from the past (lets say from the 60/70) could be as good as the others or even better. today guys arent more "skilled", but the support (training camps/PED/technolgy) is much better.

today athlehts (not mma or boxing) like swimming etc. are the best ever, because the support (
science/ped/technology) is much better. they learned from the past and stuff.

thats just the short version

Ken Shamrock wasn't even the best in his prime... People acting like he was some sort of world beater lol. Ken Shamrock was a hype job who's claim to fame was a draw with Royce Gracie, and dragging out the most boring fight ever in MMA vs. Dan Severn.
 
There are LWs in the UFC that would beat Prime Ken Shamrock

shamrock couldn't even beat don frye, in his prime....gus is a new age fighter...shamrock is a jurassic fighter...he wouldn't last a round with gus...not a chance...he wouldn't get gus down and gus would just destroy him on the feet.

The person is saying that MMA has evolved, not human beings. It was pretty obvious what he meant, but maybe you think that "Andy Anderson" from UFC 5 would still be a force to be reckoned with if he wasn't out of his prime.

Ken would be beaten into a living death by probably every single current UFC LHW.
 
I think Shamrock's long period of suck (he sucked after his pro-wrestling stint, the only part most Sherdoggers have seen) has affected people's notions of how close a fight could be. What about this, then:
