Opinion Mark Thompson, the English gentleman who wants to turn around CNN

They're a thousand times more truthful and accurate than Fox, why target CNN?

Fox was really bad during the Bush years, and CNN and MSNBC are just as bad today. Besides, Fox is neocon and most modern conservatives don't like neocons.

Dying format only old miserable people watch but they managed to kill off their audience much faster than had they just been only marginally credible. They went all in on the mentally deranged Trump/Russia demo, but that cratered after the 2020 election. They pushed any race hoax they could find or twisted the truth maliciously constantly pushing division.

They can't reclaim their creditability and the World has passed by their antiquated method of delivering the news. Fuck them and good riddance. Nothing but hate merchants peddling ignorance, lies, and racial animosity.

“. . . the London-born son of an Irish mother and British father, was presented with an irresistible opportunity to lead CNN, an esteemed news network that has been grappling with an identity crisis, declining viewership, and subpar financial results.”

“Warner Bros Discovery CEO Zaslav has chosen to invest in a more neutral and focused CNN, dedicated to straight news delivery. During Chris Licht’s short and chaotic tenure at CNN, the network failed to attract the moderate viewers and even lost some who enjoyed a more confrontational approach.”

ElPais

CNN has been horrible for years, relying on outrage, like a 90’s daytime, all while promoting pseudo-agenda based news. Not quite MSNBC levels of hackery, with a bunch of random conservatives to break things up, but biased, loud, and something for airport televisions. Just missing the strippers.

It will be difficult to grab onto viewers in the splintered streaming world. Do you really need CNN? I checked out their streaming tab on Max, and it’s fine. The same old CNN you’ll remember from years ago: endless Wolf Blitzer interrupted by a newish face.

Anyway CNN can get you back? Or are you done with them/done with news in general?

Bring back Don Lemon!
He brought us the real unfiltered news, without bias. He was respectful to all guests regardless of their political views. He also understood that “as a Black man in America”, he could make millions doing all this.

It's kind of comical that people don't know the difference between opinion shows and news.

Among Republican strategists, the idea is to discredit sources of information that they don't control, at least among their base. It's sad that it works so well, in part because a lot of news consumers are shockingly ignorant about news (see how many people literally don't know the difference between a news story/broadcast and a column/opinion show).

I don't understand why CNN and MSNBC don't have left wing versions of Tucker Carlson. I feel like that could draw an audience.

MSNBC has Maddow. Same exact stuff. Spewing out conspiracy theories.

I wonder who Maddow's mentor was...?

I don't actually like CNN or watch them at all. Like ever. I look at news aggregators and zoom in on local reporting whenever possible.

I just think it's ridiculous that you guys whine about CNN while ignoring how much worse the conservative networks are, it's the height of hypocrisy. Fox is being sued for billions as a result of their lies and yet all you do is complain about CNN.

Your list is terrible, by the way. I have a hard time believing it was compiled by an adult.
i don't like either! but fox does nothing but lie and cnn never lies!

lol. ok

Lol Don Lemon?

Err, yes? That was CNN's version of Tucker Carlson. Just a hyper partisan loud mouth, who parrots leftist talking points on every issue, who would degrade any and all right wingers on his show. What do you think a leftist media organization's equivalent to Tucker Carlson should be? A right winger?

I'm genuinely not sure what you're suggesting. Are you suggesting that CNN should hire a clone of Tucker Carlson who spouts right wing rhetoric, or an equivalent from the left? Don Lemon was the equivalent for left leaning CNN. So was Maddow on MSNBC. So was Cuomo. They're just talking heads trying to appeal to their base. There's nothing special about Tucker Carlson, that sets him apart from any other media hack. He's just more popular than most.

He certainly pretends to be, to the extent that exists on the right.

The comparison was on CTism (not really reasonable either). I think anti-establishmentism is inherently or definitionally leftist.

All news networks became outrage porn due to the gutting of the Fairness Doctrine + the invention of the 24hr news cycle. This led to massive audience capture problems and executives who think pandering is the way to garner ratings. News wont be news again until news starts to openly criticize "news."

Maddow is anti-establishment?

You didn't say anything about anti-establishment. Maddow and Tucker run the same playbook. Long form "what if" conspiracy stuff that plays to their base's desires. Facts are secondary to the "what if" imagination. It's also why they are the most watched and only media personalities anyone actually cares about. The rest are just empty suits with the job.

Jim Acosta has tried to fill that role, but he's not smart enough.
