As opposed to having a large inventory of sedans that already aren't selling? Again Ford is making a killing on trucks and SUV's. These small cars are already being made else where and could be imported until they retooled plants. It is a gamble and they would suffer for a little while if gas prices spiked but you give the market what it wants.
They only made two larger sedans. The Taurus and Fusion. They dropped the Fiesta but are keeping a version the Focus. They will still have a small car. The Fusion was probably the only midsize sedan "young folks" bought any way. I don't see why selling people what they want hurts your image.I am not saying keep all of them but making at least 1 or 2 models of sedan with different features and call it a day.
hey it's their company let them do what they wanna do. but if there was another situation where suddenly the market shits really fast to small vehicles again they'll be dead last in the market.
the image of Ford will take a hit. people will start identifying them with only SUV and trucks now. You're cutting out a large market of people (primarily younger folks I think). Most kids or teenagers or young professionals go for sedans or smaller cars. It's more affordable and better mileage. So most of these young folks won't even look at Ford when they're choosing their first (or first few) cars now.
Literally no one in the auto industry believes this. All the vehicles they quit making will be replaced with higher margin vehicles that sell better. Which in turn causes more jobs to be created.

Someone I used to know had a bumper sticker hanging in their house, "I'd rather push a Chev than drive a Ford" LOLFORD

My opinion is that in the short term, it's going to work wonderfully for them. They can streamline operations and as long as the F150 is still king of the pickup truck hill, they'll do great. The problem with specialization, of course, is that it opens you up to much more severe impact compared to other car makers if something comes along to disrupt your domination of the truck category (or the SUV category). In all likelihood, you will find yourself having to adapt very quickly and that could be very expensive and painful. So, it's good as long as it lasts, but when things go bad, they'll go really bad.I think its a mistake but whatever. My first car was a Taurus so it's pretty sad to see that line disappear completely.
I think it will hurt their image somewhat IMO.
I think we can at least say Trump tried. If you are going to shit on that then just list your accomplishments.
Really???

I hear ya. I'm not that loyal but I appreciate the joke. There are few more "you sound poor"-worthy moments than when yokels start with the Ford vs Chevy battle.
And leave the Fusion as well. I love that car!Bring back the Escort!
I had a hand-me-down '87 Escort that would run practically 2 weeks on fucking fumes. Best god damn car on gas. There were so many Dead stickers that my mom and then my uncle put on the hatchback you could barely see out the back window.
You could fart into the gas tank and that car would run a solid week.

You can't be this obtuse...Nobody is buying the cars, what does that have to do with Trump? He really has a power over some of you haha.
I never get Americans' fascination with pick-up trucks. Even here in Canada, you see people buying these when their jobs or hobbies have absolutely zero need for them. It's especially funny when you see scrawny dudes buying large pick-ups. Compensating much?
the most indestructible vehicle ever createdWhat is the hilux?

It's not about hurting your image; it's about building (or keeping) brand loyalty. It's how Toyota made a splash in the truck market.
