Oh yea this whole Kid McCoy nostalgia is getting borderline "wake up on the subway with 4'gs in your pocket" gay.
 
Years back (when I still followed mma) when Tim Sylvia was going to fight Gan (Gan? or Dan? I'm thinking Gan) McGee I remember an announcer raving something like "never before has the combined height of two men in the cage been this tall!!!"..

Seemed corny. Like selling a fight by focusing on the combined hand size of two fighters.

Before I came here as killer of trolls, so many were banned or left that the boxing sec was dead. I wouldnt say I spammed it, cause Everyone was loving the threads(except dou3), and regulars in the heavies and kickboxing secs started coming here. U cant blame me, combat sport fandom is non existant where I live.

On another note: lol at Khan using religous excuses like Ramadan fasting to avoid matches, yet skype cheating on the mother of his kids. What a glass dick!

I think limiting the amount of users there was by design more than anything. Pretty sure when Tam started up the site a half dozen years ago or so the site was invite only. That's how I remember it at least.

you should have seen when he was finally booted, the young kids went nuts, some might still have something in their sig about him. Some of the posters were literally obsessed with the guy, he had a following.

it was around the time of the Toney/Couture fight and he was just saying all kinds of stuff, insulting mma fighters and fans, I thought it was an intentional thing because he knew that toney wasn't going to win and he kept insisting that toney would expose mma, I think his contempt for the sport just devoured him and he wanted to get banned for two reasons, to avoid being humiliated when toney lost (which he had to know would happen) and just spewing venom intentionally at a sport and fan base he hated. funny thing was, we went back a few years and I always made my contempt for MMA obvious but would stop short of being really insulting but he always, always was semi-complimentary of mma but somehow I could sense from his writing that he was hiding a deep dislike of the sport, maybe because it was usurping boxing, maybe because he really just didn't like it. I don't know, but it was like he couldn't contain himself anymore.

you're serious? i saw the shamrock fight, ken really looked old, they say it was a fix, didn't look like a fix, ken looked older than his years and shouldn't have been there, still should have been able to choke the guy out though. Slice was after the Silva fight wasn't it?
 
Limited for sure. Weak ground game and holes in his standup defense but his resume pre Mir and the Arlovski wins are very good.

Kimbo was fresh into the sport training every day.
Fast forward to Kimbo being out of the sport for 5 years and fighting a hall of famer.
A hall of famer who locks in a submission and doesn't submit him.
Yea the Ken Shamrock win is a bigger deal than that Mercer win,

Kimbo and shamrock both aren't really serious fighters today. Ken looked awful, so awful that it did look possible that the fight was fixed. I don't think it was, i think all the injuries, the losses, the age just makes it would be a surprise if he beat anyone. Kind of like boxers when they get old, Roy Jones doesn't shock anyone anymore when he gets kayoed, it's expected.
 
I will also say that ppl think Mercer losing to Kimbo is a blow to boxing. If that's true then Kimbo beating Shamrock must be a heavy blow to MMA.
Kimbo isn't an mma fighter. Hes a street fighter.

One last comment on Tim Sylvia...

in his fight with Abe Wagner he was a heavy favorite...like -500 or something like that...

I knew Abe was a taller guy with a substantial reach...I couldn't wait to make a small wager on Wagner...hoping he would land that over hand right...

I was right in my predicition but my fucking sportsbook didn't have this fight as it was a no name promotion.
