It's so obvious that Conor is leaving UFC for boxing

There's no scenario where he becomes a laughing stock. When – or if – he gets demolished, it won't matter because every logical person knows he's in there with "the best ever" and even the most die-hard Conor fans will be able to convince themselves of the fact that just because he couldn't hang with TBE, doesn't mean he can't beat a "washed up" and "old" Malignaggi. That's the narrative they will use to sell that fight.

Even with a loss, there's huge money in McGregor-Malignaggi and he knows it. That's why they're already building toward it.

There is no way on this green earth people will pay to see McGregor again in boxing after he gets obliterated. He is not going to generate a similar revenue once the intrigue is gone.

This is a novelty act. A one trick pony and this fiasco ends on Saturday night, once and for all.

Unless Conor either wins or has an outstanding showing in defeat, you're absolutely right.

The only reason people are shelling out 100 bucks a pop for this spectacle is because they believe there is a chance... a slight chance... that Conor might just be that rare, athletic superman capable of doing the impossible.

If he ends up getting pinged around the ring like a punching bag, swinging at air, no one in their right mind is going to pay a cent to see him box another pro boxer.

What's a bigger fight? Mcgregor staying in boxing if he wins, or an open challenge for boxing best to meet him at MMA because he already conquered boxing?

There is not a single championship-level boxer alive who would EVER agree to step into the octagon against McG. None. Zero. Will never, ever happen.

If Conor has a half decent showing against Floyd and loses he can still fight the winner or loser on PPV of Canelo/GGG and Paulie right after.

Why would they, most have been using their fists most of their lives, for them to go in the octagon and then try to use their elbows, feet, knees and all the different arts and techniques is a ridiculous expectation.

I agree. And believe this is why we will never see a championship level boxer, in his prime, enter the octagon.

Many people have already convinced themselves that Conor, who has never boxed before, has a chance against one of the all-time greats in the sport. It's ridiculous. So don't tell me nobody would buy that he could beat Malignaggi, even if Mayweather destroys him.

It's not about "similar revenue" because obviously he'll never get $100 million again. But he could make a quarter of that against Malignaggi and in one night still far outpace anything he'll ever make in UFC.

^^ They will have to, if they don't then he never fights again and he retires & UFC would be in big doodoo, Conor even if he loses but have a good showing will force their hand. Look how horrible this year for mma has been without Conor, last year was legit only good cause of Mcgregor. As a hardcore fan there's other interesting fights but people keep getting injured or can't make weight or some other dumb reason to pull out where as Conor never pulls out(ask Dee). Conor is getting 30mill+ every UFC fight from here on out or else he retires.

That's laughable. No fighter will ever, ever get paid that much by UFC. They'll let him buy himself out befor they ever do that.

Not to mention they won't make any money for all the effort. It's like saying why won't nfl/nba level players get into mma. It's a joke.

He definitely is gonna go back to the UFC for sure

Probably gonna fight Diaz again then retire

I seriously doubt it. No boxing fan gives a damn about McGregor. You're projecting you're own fantasies.

No. You're acting like there will be some residual interest based on how much money this fight has generated. This fight is a curiosity fight and nothing more. When he loses badly, the curiosity will be gone and he'll either go back to the UFC or retire.

Please no

We don't want him

You UFC fans can keep him

No thanks

It all depends on how he looks against Floyd. If he lasts the distance and wins a round or 2 he is done with UFC. Of course if he wins too.

I don't think it is realistic to expect many people to be willing to shell out $100 to watch Malignaggi come out of retirement for one last fight. The reason for his last fight against Sam Eggington was so that Sky Sports could get him to commentate on Joshua - Klitschko. It was a case of "Hey, fight on our undercard. Umm...seing as your here, would you mind commentating on the main event?"

McGregor doesn't need to garner interest from the "boxing fans" to make a lot of money in boxing even if Floyd wipes the floor with him. All he has to do is maintain the majority of his own current fanbase who are likely to support him regardless of what sport he competes in.

Once again

Nope

If he boxes
It's under wme

Geez
You silly casuals

After Conor KO's Floyd, there are just so many options for him:-
