It's so obvious that Conor is leaving UFC for boxing

It's become crystal clear that both McGregor AND Dana are cashing out on the UFC with this fight. I expect Dana to resign by winter and McGregor to never step in the Octagon again.

Notice today how he completely dodged the question about whether this would mark a career change for him or whether he would return to UFC.

Compare that to early in the press tour, when he said his next fight would definitely be in the Octagon.

Now that he's gotten a taste of the money he can make in boxing, there's no chance he goes back. Just by boxing Malignaggi (no doubt his next fight) and one or two other guys, he can make five times more than he'd make doing another decade of UFC.

If he beats Wayweather. Conor vs Canelo. Omg that would sell atleast 3 million ppv's.

He is gone win or lose (and it will be a loss) but it won't matter. He can make more boxing Malignaggi than he could make in five UFC fights.

In a way, the best thing that could happen to MMA is Conor getting absolutely embarrassed and finished or retired Saturday.

Knowing the kind of pride Conor carries with him, he would, without question, attempt to return to defend the UFC's 155 strap ASAP. He will have a pathological need to reclaim his combat dominance.

If the worst happens, mark my words.

Where's the money in a UFC title fight? It's small potatoes for him now. His eyes have been opened to a whole new stratosphere of financial gain. He can't possibly go back and take a paltry UFC percentage cut now. Dana knows it and probably doesn't care because he's cashing out too.

He's a boxer now. They're already setting up his next bout (Malignaggi).

People who think this game is only about money for McGregor simply do not understand the psychology of the man. The very psychology that put him where he is right now.

Mark my words. If Conor gets embarrassed by Floyd he will RUN back to the UFC.

On the other hand, if Conor does the almost impossible and beats Floyd (or, say, earns a super close SD) then, yes, Conor might take another boxing match before potentially returning to MMA.

Again, this game is not only about money for McGregor. It's about being a combat sport legend.

He retires tomorrow and he's a combat sport legend. Who cares?

He's been haggling with Dana over money and threatening to quit for years. That was BEFORE he actually got a taste of the money he could make away from the UFC.

Listen to the change in him when asked about his UFC future from the beginning of this press tour to today. He went from "my next fight will be in the Octagon" to "we'll see, there's levels to this business."

The money for him is in boxing, with no restrictions on purses, sponsorships, PPV cuts, etc. And it can be argued that achieving success in boxing makes him an even bigger combat sport legend.

There will be no future success for McGregor in boxing and no high-level boxer will be stupid enough to call him out if Conor ends up getting embarrassed and outclassed by Floyd.

You obviously don't understand the basis on which Conor got this fight and the basis on which this fight is a money-maker.

If Conor becomes an international laughingstock Saturday night and generates a hundred memes and gifs of himself getting clowned and blasted by Mayweather, he will RUN back to the UFC as fast as humanly and medically possible.

Again, mark my words.

There's no scenario where he becomes a laughing stock. When – or if – he gets demolished, it won't matter because every logical person knows he's in there with "the best ever" and even the most die-hard Conor fans will be able to convince themselves of the fact that just because he couldn't hang with TBE, doesn't mean he can't beat a "washed up" and "old" Malignaggi. That's the narrative they will use to sell that fight.

Even with a loss, there's huge money in McGregor-Malignaggi and he knows it. That's why they're already building toward it.

You may see things differently come Monday, after the smoke clears. It all hinges on whether or not Conor gets embarrassed.

He has a contract with the UFC, i think if he has a good showing, especially with Jon Jones ped bust then he will hold the UFC hostage and force them to pay a ransom the next ufc event he participates him. He will do what fedor couldn't and that's co-promote with them and share revenue 50/50 or even more in his favor.

The UFC still hold his rights

Mayweather match is only happening because Conor can make a lot of money off it while still giving the UFC a large payday off of it.

Outside of boxing Floyd the other potential boxing matches he can have would do about the same numbers as his MMA fights would.

Unless he can make the matches happen under the McGregor Promotions and UFC banners...Another boxing match under the circumstance that the Mayweather one is under wouldn't be worth it, he might even make less because the UFC aren't letting him fight elsewhere without being massively compensated.

WME would let him buy himself out before they ever did that. They didn't spend $4 billion on the UFC to fucking co-promote fights with anyone.

^^ They will have to, if they don't then he never fights again and he retires & UFC would be in big doodoo, Conor even if he loses but have a good showing will force their hand. Look how horrible this year for mma has been without Conor, last year was legit only good cause of Mcgregor. As a hardcore fan there's other interesting fights but people keep getting injured or can't make weight or some other dumb reason to pull out where as Conor never pulls out(ask Dee). Conor is getting 30mill+ every UFC fight from here on out or else he retires.

Unless Conor either wins or has an outstanding showing in defeat, you're absolutely right.

The only reason people are shelling out 100 bucks a pop for this spectacle is because they believe there is a chance... a slight chance... that Conor might just be that rare, athletic superman capable of doing the impossible.

If he ends up getting pinged around the ring like a punching bag, swinging at air, no one in their right mind is going to pay a cent to see him box another pro boxer.
