It is time to retire the concept of "prime" x fighter vs y fighter.

I am so sick and tired of reading how "prime" Fedor would have done this and that, "Prime" Machida would dominate, "prime" this and "prime" that.

OMG prime Genghis Khan would have owned all the current beltholders in MMA! Prime

Prime Diagoras of Rhodes would have destroyed Stipe and DC!

Prime Jesus of Nazareth would have stomped a mudhole in Luke Rockhold!
 
You've been here over 12 years and you post stuff like this ?

Aging happens, in other sports also, many all time greats slowly devolve into mediocrity. Father time is undefeated.

P.S can we still talk about altitude and motivation ?

All of those examples are entirely true though and Prime Machida did dominate. 16-0 if I recall...

instead we should increase the use of nicknames. like "sea level cain", "motivated BJ" "100% hendricks" etc.

or you could realize this is an MMA forum and speculation and discussion are what it was designed for.
 
Wait until a rising prospect like Erick Silva hits his prime! Then everyone will be doing Prime Erick Silva vs threads.
 
No. It makes sense. For example, one recent fight that makes sense for that is belfort vs gastelum. A prime vitor would have beaten kelvin, sonits strange to act like kelvin is better just cause he beat up 40 year old. Same with Brunson machida, a younger machida would have likely beat Brunson, so why not call it what it is? They are older and skills have declined but were animals in their prime
 
? So you don't think it's interesting to speculate how the best version of fighter X would do against fighter Y? Are we only allowed to discuss a fighter's current ability? That pretty much removes half of the reasons why we post in an MMA forum because we like to discuss who would beat who depending on different factors.
 
In my prime I would have had a savage comeback for this post, but I’m over the hill and can’t take the same shots anymore

Ironically, in this post, you are trying to show Fujita was a bad fighter when he fought CroCop by referring to his past fight history. Isn't that the exact thing you're railing against: using past performance to argue about the quality of a fighter at a point in time?

The problem is that its impossible to benchmark the point when a fighter ends his prime and becomes "old".

Like with Fedor or other guys people excuse their losses for being past prime but the more likely reason is that he fought better opponents with proper drug testing.

Did bigfoot only start losing because he was past prime seeing that when he destroyed fedor he was 16-2 with a win also over former champ arlovski.

Did tim Sylvia only lose to fedor because he was "past prime"?
Does prime Sylvia kill Nog couture ect?

Does prime Arlovski kill fedor?
