It is time to retire the concept of "prime" x fighter vs y fighter.

I am so sick and tired of reading how "prime" Fedor would have done this and that, "Prime" Machida would dominate, "prime" this and "prime" that.

OMG prime Genghis Khan would have owned all the current beltholders in MMA! Prime

Prime Diagoras of Rhodes would have destroyed Stipe and DC!

Prime Jesus of Nazareth would have stomped a mudhole in Luke Rockhold!

1. Prime Jesus was a sissy, he would get smoked by any average bloke.

2. "So sick of Prime X vs Prime Y" has been a topic since the 1940s.
(You can always scroll past threads that bother you).

Ironically, in this post, you are trying to show Fujita was a bad fighter when he fought CroCop by referring to his past fight history. Isn't that the exact thing you're railing against: using past performance to argue about the quality of a fighter at a point in time?

It's not popular here, but I'm inclined to agree in some ways at least with the OP. Prime machida is a good example I think. Machida was successful cuz of his footwork and angles at a time when most MMA fighters were plodding MT guys or wrestlers turned boxers. As the level of training increased, people started learning more and more how to cut off the cage and prevent those angles. Shogun more or less laid out the blueprint for that. So imo it's less that machida isn't in his "prime" than his style was just figured out..

Shogun was better than Machida. Jon Jones was better.

Machida took and delivered a lot of damage against Weidman. That fight was a war. People don’t talk about it but I think that fight took a lot out of both guys.

If he wasn’t out of his prime then, he certainly was afterwards. He got dropped by Rockhold, you can’t tell me that Rockhold has better striking and footwork than Mousasi, Hendo, Rampage, Shogun and Evans. Rockhold wasn’t even cutting off the cage as you suggest the game plan to beating Machida is.

I am flattered that you took that much time to research my sherdog history. By your definition, someone's opinion only matters if they post multiple times daily for years. I post in bursts because I dont have a ton of time to spend on forums, and I post like a psychopathic serial killer because I generally only post when I am fired up and passionate about a subject, unlike a lot of people who fill the forums with useless drivel we all have to wade through.
