If you had a budget of $500 million to make a game, what kind of game would you make?

Dark Souls MMORPG. Not that I'd bother investing any time in it, I just know it would be insanely popular!

Lost me with "Witcher combat".
I wasn't very specific in my post, but I basically meant offense from dragon's dogma and defense from the witcher series with the addition of shields. I like the parry and dodge system from the witcher games and that many heavier attacks cannot be parried or blocked. The attacking (both melee and magic) is severely lacking in the witcher series, but that's where dragon's dogma shines. The defense is lacking in dragon's dogma imo.

Considering the most expensive video game ever developed is Star Wars: The Old Republic at $200 million - excluding marketing costs - I think $500 mil is more than feasible to create the game he's thinking of, assuming the price of tech has gone down to an affordable level.

.

U are underestimating how complicated this product would be to make.

Assuming the tech is available and he'd be the first to make this game it would destroy any gaming budget. We are talking about a tech that is mentally invasive, maybe with chemicals to induce sleep to allow the mind to enter a digital realm. The studies and beta testing with proper safeguards alone would probably blow past that 500 mil mark on its own...

Zombie post apoc survival MMORPG using google maps to recreate the entire United States. Every building/house would be fair game and you could enter, factions could rise up, settlements built, etc.

Maybe an RPG time travel game where you can travel back to different time periods, so can be transported to jurassic age with dinosaurs roaming around, or transported right in the middle of a war going on etc.. fuck knows what the story would be though.

A shapeshifting alien from the future that travels back to present day to stop an alien invasion of the earth. Alien from the future sees that the earth becomes the most destructive force in the universe and decides to travel back and stop the original alien invasion to setup a base towards taking over this part of the universe.

The shapeshifting alien must convince a group of scientists to building and deploying weapons and bio-weapons towards stopping the aliens. The bio-weapons destroy the aliens and the high powered weapons level the playing field for earth. The shapeshifting alien befriends a scientist you play ether the scientist or the Alien. Kinda along these lines.

Police game where you start from the beginning just driving around on patrol dealing with day to day shit in freeroam, where you're just cruising around a section of town and you get random calls to respond to. then as you progress through the game you can choose to be like firearms division/swat or be a detective or just carry on as a patrol officer, basically just all diff sections of the police force.

that'd be cool.

oh, and it's not just a simple arrest n they disappear; you have to cuff them stick them in the car and drive them to HQ. so you'd also need a good flowing combat system where if they're not co-operating you gotta fight them, weaken them up a lil bit then tackle them to the ground and cuff him then drag him to your car where he can still try to push you away/struggle and try escaping.

a star wars survival game you start with nothing and you need to build weapons ships etc decide if yoo wanna be a jedi bounty hunter or just a homeless bum on space drugs

Id make an RPG in the scythe universe

A fellow Boardgame fan =D

Scythe as a game is pretty average imo, I'll just play Terra Mystica if I want to play a resource collection style game. The artwork and lore around the game is fucking amazing though and definitely needs to be explored further.

I'd hire a massive team of talented programmers and artists to do porn mods for Skyrim.

I think CD project is working on my 500 million dollar dream project right now. :D

Haven't tried Terra Mystica, I will check it out. I am trying to wrap my brain around Kingdom Death right now, its a beast of a game.

Bug-free DayZ Standalone, with an even bigger map.

buy the diablo licencse, declare diablo 3 as "never happened" and do it right

or a 500 million $ tower defence game, could be fun

I think I would make something like what Crowfall is making right now. Basically, it's a sequel to Shadowbane with better programmers (the alpha is still REALLY buggy, but I have faith).

Shadowbane wasn't a great game (looking back, it actually wasn't really even a good game), but the politics and the fact that your entire city (months of work) could be destroyed if you pissed off another guild made the game exciting.
