Idris Elba rumored to be next Bond

{<huh}
So you think the fact that Bale plays Moses (a Levantine indistinguishable from modern Arabs) portrays a character (who according to myth) was adopted by Egyptians and convincingly passed as one, supports your "point"?
what??? what the fuck did I say about Bale?
pointless talking to someone who got attention span of a goldfish. smh.

Yea it's called getting more female fans other than the typical male nerd.

Which has been proven to be a fruitless endeavor, and now has Star Wars(freakin' Star Wars!), suffering box office lows, and currently has the spin off series in limbo.

Trying to cater to female viewers in a Sci-Fi action adventure franchise, is about as futile as trying to cater to males with sissy romance movies.

The feminists are going to have to eventually wake up to the fact that for the most part, girls like girly stuff. It's not sexist to point that out. It's just a fact. Young girls aren't tossing away their princess fantasies, for Jedi fantasies anytime soon, and if they think grown women are going to identify with any of this nerdy, sci-fi, power fantasy action shit, they're simply delusional and refuse to accept reality.

I remember how badly people lost their shit when Dan Craig was announced as the new Bond and I was one of the few who thought he'd be fine (mainly due to his pretty baddass character in Munich) and I was pretty much right, he was fine but he is a different type of animal than the more classic versions of Bond played by Moore and Connery in that he is much more brooding and sullen and lacks the charisma and suaveness that the aforementioned legends brought to the table.

I honestly think Elba is a great choice for the new Bond and I believe he has the requisite charm to inject some much needed life back into the franchise. He is an articulate English gent and the fact that he happens to be black has no bearing whatsoever on his ability to play the character of Bond.

In the words of the late great Sir Roger Moore... “You can’t be a real spy and have everybody in the world know who you are and what your drink is,” “That’s just hysterically funny.” and I think that sums it up perfectly, it's all a bit ridiculous and people really need to stop taking this shit so seriously.

Yup, Craig shook up this old franchise that was struggling to find legs simply by being a different type of Bond (blond and brooding). Old franchises die or they evolve and try different things to bring in new audiences. Someone like Idris, as Bond, would be more like a mix between Moore and Connery, Suave and sophisticated and more tech focused than the killer that Craig was. Maybe it works and maybe it does not. Its not like they cannot go back to another white guy immediately after.

And btw why is there no outcry when Brits or Ausies play American's? IS it solely because they are white? Is skin colour the only 'no go zone'?

I say this all the time and it is that white males have been pandered to for so long that they cannot see it. They just think it is normal and right for every part, white, ethnic or otherwise to be played by whites. And it HAS been normal for so long.

It has been so normal it is a joke and meme in real life. The one token black guy, Yeoman Johnson who beems down with the Star crue and you know will die because you rarely see a black face with them.

And I will say AGAIN that I see nothing wrong with pandering to the paying audience. I expect it.

But now that audience is changing and the pandering is changing to reflect that. Chinese dollars reflect the next wave of pandering and there is nothing wrong with that. But the cries, from the biggest before pandered to group that now, NOW, it must stop and is unfair are hilarious. It must stop NOW because others are finally being pandered to. They want to 'Make Movies Great Again'.

Yeah, totally agree. It's pandering, and that isn't meant in a negative way.
A smart studio is going to make movies that will entice their audience.
America takes and directly copies Japanese horror movies all the time. They always do it with white actors.
They don't cast asian men in romantic leads, and even shy away from having romance movies with a black male and white female leading actor and actress because they are pandering to their audience. They are putting out what they think their audience wants to see.
Welp, in 2018, there are more black people, asians, and latinos, and they want to see people like themselves in tv and film.
That doesn't mean erase white people. But now they have to share the stage.

I don't get why this is so hard to understand. Movies that bomb in the states can make up all their profits in China and elsewhere overseas. OF COURSE studios are going to start making casts more inclusive. They are going for a world audience, not just white America

Elba would have been a great choice but he's too old at this point to be casted in a franchise like this. He'll be 46 in a few weeks and approaching 50 by the time they would actually start filming the first movie. (Yes I think Roger Moore sucked as James Bond).

The blueprint is already out there on how to properly cast these type of franchise roles for a long time. Many times it's by dumb luck that the best guy gets the job. Look no further than how it was almost dumb luck that Hugh Jackman got casted for Wolverine but thats exactly the type of guy you want for a franchise. A good looking actor who has age on his side(Just like Sean Connery in the early 1960s). Casting established actors long into their careers for these types of roles doesn't make sense.

I'd imagine genitals would be a bigger 'no go zone'. For example James Bond being played by a female who identifies as a male would have bigger outcry playing James Bond over Idris.

The Star Wars flop was Solo, which was led by a male cast if you werent aware. They are underperforming in China because for various reasons the Chinese audience doesnt like Star Wars both old and new. If a movie with a female (or minority) cast fails, it was because the movie itself was weak regardless of gender.
Women-fronted films are top three highest-grossing movies of 2017

It's not like he looks old, though. He can certainly still pull off the rugged, ass-kicking spy look. It's not like Roger Moore, who in the later films, looked like someone's grampa.

Not at this very moment but these franchises take a long time to make. It's not like he's going to be done with this in the next 5 years.

I just don't see the point in casting him for that role. Is there no other options? It reeks of a lazy option that has been in the news cycle for years now. It's like how when there's a thread on Sherdog everyone thinks Tom Hardy should play every role. I'd like to see them think outside the box. If they casted Elba years ago that would have been thinking outside the box a bit instead of having social media pressure them into this because they want a black James Bond so bad.

Yeah, but it's not like he'll age all that much in five years. Dude clearly takes care of himself, and black don't crack. Look at Denzel. Still crushing it in his 60's. The guy doesn't age. Idris is the same. He looks the exact same he did ten or fifteen years ago. He ain't all of a sudden turn into Redd Foxx in five years.

I was against it at first, but I've softened my stance a bit. I don't look forward to reading about how progressive, and groundbreaking it is, and how it's the greatest Bond movie ever, simply because a black guy is in the lead, but is Idris the worst choice out there? No. Are people opposed to it, simply because he's black? Yes. I was one of those people too, but the more I thought about it and tried to justify it, the more I realized I was being rather silly about some movie role, that has been interchangeable for decades and far from sacred.

I mean, who gives a shit? He's a sophisticated sounding British man, and a great actor who just happens to be black. Why can't he be Bond?

<{monica}>

Elba should have been the choice for Bond back in 2006 in Casino Royale.

The ONLY Bond movie I thought Craig WAS Bond was Skyfall.

Capcom accepts that blacks are true Brits but Sherfront can't.

Lol yet another example of how other media is light years ahead of movies in diversity. They introduced this black english gentleman boxer in the late 90s. In fact all the street fighter games have a racially diverse cast. Comics have had minority characters since at least the 60s

Those movies aren't struggling because they put women in them though. One of the main three characters in the OT was a woman.

It's the SJW themes on top of that hack Rian intentionally shitting on Abrams ideas

i don't think you can blame it on females as to why those specific movies failed. Bad scripts play a big part.

But regardless Hollywood is allowed to try and fail. They are playing a game of trying to move with the audience as it changes and you don't always get it right, right away and that is ok. They can learn, adapt and try again.

The point simply is that it is not wrong for them to try. That almost all roles should not be white males just because they were in the past. The audience is changing and Hollywood will try and adapt to follow that audience.

Idris Elba is probably the most british person ever, so no problems with it at all.

If Elba isn't available, how about Caitlyn Jenner??
