How Badly Did The "Fake News" Blitz Backfire On The MSM?

This all started after MSM media outlets used it as a scapegoat for Hillary Clinton's epic defeat at the big hands of Donald J Trump.

Once upon a time, some redneck walked into Comet Pizza and fired a few shots into the air, in an effort to find out the truth about "Pizzagate". The MSM reported on the incident as guy who was terribly mislead by "Fake News". We then saw piece after piece after piece, about how the public was being fooled by "fake news" outlets, and only respectable outlets like CNN should be trusted. Like this one:



They ran with it, and ran with it. Then people started holding the MSM up to the same standards, and realized "Holy shit. You guys are fake news too."


Then this happened:



Ouch.


Now it seems like no matter who you are, you're automatically deemed "fake news". From FOX and Info Wars, to CNN and MSNBC. No media outlet can escape this moniker. So yeah, do you think CNN and the like wish they could turn back time and never have used that term?

Also, if you have any favorite "fake news" videos/stories from the same MSM that tried to use it to control the narrative you'd like to share, have at it.
 
What about Fake News from the President himself? Like him lying and saying Fox News had 3 times as many viewers for the Presidential Inauguration than CNN did? Of when the President said he had the biggest crowd ever for his Inauguration? How about the President saying that no member of his campaign had any contact with Russians?
 
Trump actually said that any news he doesn't like is fake news because he knows good from bad and could probably be a reporter, not as good as an actual reporter but still good because he knows good news from bad news and sometimes he thinks that a story will be good news but they turn an good story into an okay story or maybe even a slighty bad story.

Like Flynn didn't do anything wrong and in fact he did something good but he didn't tell Pence so he was asked to resign, he wasn't fired.

He also had the biggest EC win since Reagan if only count Republicans except for HW Bush, but still it was an impressive win and he can't be held responsible for the stuff he says because other people told him that and he only hires the best people so what he says should be a good story because he knows good stories since he could be a reporter that's not as good as actual reporters but still very very good.

So if you quote Trump it's fake news since he doesn't like you quoting him saying stuff that other very very good people he hires since he's a tremendous hirer who hire tremendous people told him since Mike Flynn didn't do anything wrong except not lie just not tell the truth to Mike Pence.
 
People have been taking a "choose your own reality" approach to information for some time now.
Information politics in the information age was supposedly going to be about search engines like google and who controls common knowledge. What "everybody knows".
It turns out people mostly just go with their feelings and don't bother to fact check (if they even read past the headline) even when the information is readily available to them.
So when feelings of political alienation and disenfranchisement are high...

The Democrats and the MSM thought they could use 'fake news' to attack conservative outlets who went against their narrative. The Fake News war completely backfired because now everyone is calling out the MSM for reporting on fake news. You guys cry about Trump but here is a small sample size of multiple MSM outlets you guys take their word like the bible but they have been busted multiple times lying. This doesn't even include thing like "Hands up, don't shoot" Milo and Pewdepie are nazis, etc. The corporate media is lying to you to protect the Democrat establishment...wake up.
 
I would say it backfired about as bad as anything has backfired in the history of backfires.

What is really sad is the fact that news can be so easily fabricated and spread to the masses. There is a narrative and an agenda, and it's not for the good of the people. News is no longer objective, and in some cases it's fake.
 
Fake news should only refer to shit that is just made up. Not things you don't agree with. People take this literally when everything is called fake news. I don't recall many completely fabricated news stories from any main stream news source. Fake news is shit like pizzagate not articles that go against your opinion or articles you just don't like.

We're used to politicians lying this is nothing new. The media being outed has always been done by one side or the other against their rival news org but now both sides are doing it to all news orgs.
 
I don't think fake news emerged from the MSM. I think it emerged from FB data, then the MSM picked up on it.

I'd argue that it hasn't really backfired either. It's just something that a few of Trump's followers get fired up about everytime he says it. His approval rating is going down by a number of polls. Most people don't even know why the "fake news" comments are meant to be clever.

I literally just posted an thread about the NYT using fake news TODAY, there is 6 examples fake news from the MSM in this thread alone...Pizzagate was used by the left including Hillary Clinton (Because it was about HRC) to take down right wing news outlets but it completely backfired because now everyone is calling out their fake news. Still shit backfired and they don't like it.

This might be true but polls also told me Trump would never win so why the fuck would I listen to them now.
