Here Comes the Boom is a fun movie. It's definitely made with the mma fan in my mind, which is cool and which I'm sure has a lot to do with James' involvement as he is a big fan and likely made sure that this treated the sport with an inherent respect and appreciation while also mining it for comedic value.
Bas was great. He appeared on the King of Queens a couple of times and killed in on there too.
Awesome cameos too. Mayhem was fun. Chael's phantom tap was a nice wink, wink to the audience. Thought a botched opportunity in terms of going meta was that they should have had Rich Franklin play a math teacher at James' school. Great to see Rogan as well.
If I could fault it for something- and let's face it, it's fun but it's not a stellar sports comedy- it's the fact that I didn't find it particularly funny. That's not to say that aggravated me. I liked the storyline, the character were likable, and I love MMA which I thought the film did a good job of portraying.
That said, outside of Fonzie and some amusing segments, I didn't think it was that funny and as a comedy, I know that's what it was aiming for.
Gary Valentine is the shit but his scene came off as more depressing than funny lol.
Cool fight choreography, solid cameos, and a generally likable film. Not much to complain about at all.
