George R.R. Martin's NIGHTFLYERS (Cancelled)

Honestly though, most people don’t LOVE their jobs. They are good at it and it provides an income so they do it. So in that sense, we are all “sell outs.” Maybe it’s the same for him. Dude is just trying to make a living. Plus he’s probably super rich so now he not even really be motivated to work they here. But I bet most of us wouldn’t work super hard or very often if we didn’t have to. I mean, if I was rich AF I’d just be chilling doing whatever I wanted.

he's milking the spotlight. He never had it until this series (A Song of Fire and Ice) became big. Now it's a worldwide phenomenon and he doesn't want it to end. As long as he doesn't finish the series people will have still talk about him...

He'll most likely die before finishing it...

The dude is a hack fraud

If he actually liked the books and cared about finishing the books he would have already

But this guy doesn't give a shit. All he cares about is the fame and the money

Dude is complete fucking sellout at every level

I think it's actually the opposite: he's buckling under the huge pressure of fan expectation which is at a level he has never had to deal with before. He is also old and out of shape, most writers have declined pretty far at his age.

I'm definitely part of the "show is superior" crowd. Martin deserves credit for creating a intricate, complex and interesting world with a fresh take on fantasy... but he is a poor prose writer. The showrunners do seem to need his source material to perform at their best, however, but GoT is at it's best when they feel free to interpret and take it in their own direction.

This would be a good theory if GRRM was just sitting around all day or a recluse, except he’s not. He’s finishing other 700-page books no one wants, and working on other TV shows no one gives a fuck about.

It would be like if the Harry Potter series just suddenly stopped somewhere in the middle, at the peak of its success & popularity, because JK decided to not finish the story, & just wrote about the history of Hogwarts instead.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, but finishing the series might be really hard work while doing some side project might just be fun for him or easy. If his livelihood depended on him finishing the series, I bet it would be done in no time.

Am I the only one who thought GoT was just okay? I stopped watching mid way through the second season, and just started watching porn instead. The porn had a better plot.
I couldn’t get into that either.

I can understand a side project here or there. It just seems an odd thing to leave the biggest part of his legacy, which is certainly GoT, completely hanging out there in the air, far from finished. Especially since he’s acknowledged his own mortality & questionable health. It’s hard to imagine he just doesn’t care very much about completing it, but maybe it’s that simple.

I think it’s a combination of factors. There’s no way he doesn’t care at all. He’s invested so much into the story. I think he probably cares TOO much. He’s wondering how to do the story and characters (and fans) justice. I bet it weighs on him heavily. Because of that it is hard work. Very hard I would imagine. And maybe he doesn’t want it to end. Maybe he doesn’t want to close that chapter in his life. So he busies himself with side projects and ancillary works. He doesn’t NEED to finish it so he simply doesn’t.

Yeah the main difference is that our jobs aren't something a bunch of neckbeard weirdos have staked their happiness on.

I had this in my queue but I'm not going to bother if it was shitcanned already, just in case I end up liking it and wanting more.

Man, that’s exactly why I haven’t started the books too.

It's a gimmick that got old before Bean died. But like wrestling, you find out how many people love gimmicks. I'm sure there's more to it, but I'm constantly distracted by the world of killing main characters, rape, dragons, and dick removals.

For some reason I didn't mind season 4 when my roommates had it on, so I knew it got better. Just never wanted to give it another chance. I tried a few times, even went to the 3rd season to see that wedding.... flaccid the whole time. Not one drop of blood, so I left it from there.

Beware when gimmick lovers hear your disapproval of the show, they troll.

Well, at least there is 1 show that GRRM outlived.

My man

I did not know this show came out yet. Oh well, its a silly premise to base an entire series. Perhaps two to three episodes sure, but not the whole season or even the series.

Now GRRM can focus on ASOIAF. What is SyFy going to do now? They have no shows except the teen assassin school (which is stupid), the magic show, Happy, and that is about it. They never should have let The Expanse go. SyFy should just let Netflix buy them.

I think he is an overrated author. He can't even finish a fucking 6 book series. Man you guys need to read Steven Eriksons: Malazan Book of the Fallen series.

14 books done year after year. No godamn 12 year gaps inbetween and it makes GOT look like a Dr Seuss series

how is it canceled? It was like a miniseries and the whole story was told what else was suppose to happen?

i dont think grrm was really involved in the show (other than having written the novella)

He spends a lot of time updating his blog as well. Drives me crazy.

the deal he has with HBO doesn't allow him to do anything other then GoT the only thing he did with Nightflyers was those little interviews about the book and characters.
